I don’t get the advantage of putting tape on them, hope the guy comes back and thinks his skis got stolen, then you go steal his skis?
Am I missing something?
It sucks though, I’ve always been pleasantly surprised it doesn’t happen more and have always been lucky.

We had one of our pair of skis moved way across the resort one time, I’m certain it was an attempt to steal them. We searched everywhere and found them at a rack a long way away. Take pics of your skis is also good because when you tell the staff you’d be surprised how hard it is to describe your kids skis.

The important thing is that you enact frontier justice in that situation. Wait for the guy to come back and get "his" skis, then knock him unconscious, remove any outerwear he may be wearing and tie him to your trailer hitch - wrists or ankles, your choice. When he comes to, just go ahead and drive down the mountain. Ski thieves deserve no less.

Alberta Ski Resort Announces Large Lift-Serviced Terrain Expansion For 2025-26 Season
If Castle Mountain Resort wasn’t on your radar, it should be now.

Yesterday, Castle Mountain Resort announced that the old Angel Express will become its first chairlift addition since the 2006-07 season. It will service Haig Ridge, which is currently home to the ski resort’s cat-skiing terrain. The new-to-them Poma detachable high-speed quad chairlift will have a length of 4757 feet, a vertical rise of 1805 feet, and a ride time of around six minutes. The new terrain pod will grow Castle’s lift-serviced skiable acreage by greater than 25%.

1st day of my season yesterday at Sun Peaks with my older daughter and two of her friends.
Great conditions for the time of year.
Also, the new West Bowl chair has a ton of potential.

Trying to remember what the Sunshine Supercard cost last year on sale, I'm thinking I paid $98 but they're still sending out emails saying it's at $119 for their "Cyber Monday" sale.

$94 last year
I think it's $139 or $149 full price this year so $119 is the "deal".

My son and daughter have both really taken to skiing. My wife and I have discussed taking lessons this year since we're already spending a full day every weekend at the lodge. This got us thinking that maybe next year, we could skip the lessons for them and just make either Saturday or Sunday our ski day every weekend during the season, and purchase a family pass.
Which brings me to my question: For a family of four, what is the most economical pass for something like this next year, and when is the best time to buy it? We're not particularly fancy and don’t need any extreme hills. We’d probably want to go with the most budget-friendly option, or find the best deal if it includes access to multiple locations. Thanks in advance!

For a family of four Nakiska is sub $1000 for the seasons pass.

Nakiska is the answer, especially during the summer, the family deals are great!
Also close to YYC, easy hill but enough terrain to let them grow as skiers
Also you can utilize their Wings program. Essentially you lease skis and boots for your kids for the season, if the child grows mid season then you juts go and exchange.

How old are your kids? What level of skiers are they? Are they little daredevils in the making?
If I was going economic, I'd probably suggest Norquay. Nakiska is fine a few times a year but IMO it's a boring hill with not much variety if you're going to be going weekly. They also don't have any jumps and I don't know if they even set up their rails anymore. Norquay is not much further, has a great family vibe, has a park for the kids, and is cheaper for a family pass (at today's prices, not sure about summer early bird).

Age will play a huge part here. If they're young, COP can't be beat. Close, affordable, convenient. When mine were young they were in the COP snowboard club, so it was three days a week, but quite manageable given how close the hill is. They even did training on the trampolines for air tricks.
Once they got a little too advanced for that we had to put them in the Lake Louise club, which was also sick.
I can't do Nakiska or Norquay. Norquay it just feels like I'm commuting to snowboarding on a series of crappy chairlifts. Then I need to do the reverse commute to get back to the lodge. It's the worst laid-out mountain in the world. Nakiska is jam packed with long lines, ####ty chairs and terrible snow. My kids have done programs/competitions at both hills and I don't even bring my gear. I'll sit in the lodge and play on my phone before I'll bother with those hills.
Having said that, the snow in the mountains pretty much everywhere has been reliably meh for the past couple seasons, with a couple epic days sprinkled in there.
But quality over quantity. A few days at Louise is better than 10 at Nakiska.

Yup, have to agree on Nakiska. Went there this past weekend just to get out on my board, but man it was crowded, icey, and didn't feel worth the large price for what it is. Louise and Sunshine are so much better, even with a higher price and further drive.
Castle is a place I'd like to visit this year, thats a great mountain and they added a new high speed lift which expands the overall terrain by 25% I think.
Going to Kicking Horse Dec 27th for 4 days, never been, hope its awesome!

Well if we're being honest, the snow can be questionable anywhere in Alberta.
Sliver's not wrong with COP depending on where you're kids, and you, are at ability wise. That's where we put our daughter in lessons. (Albeit she's 4... ) The nice thing about COP is you can do after work lessons and still have your weekends free to explore a bit. We have friends with kids in the programs at Louise and Norquay and it can be a slog to go every weekend. Although that also depends on the program, Louise offers 4 and 5 week programs but the clubs usually run all season long.
People complain about COP a lot but it's a completely adequate place to learn to ski and ride. And it has one of the better parks around, the only half pipe in western Canada, and is the training ground of all of our Olympic athletes.

I'm not sure Kicking Horse or Castle is worth if for a family getting into skiing.
