Fantastic win for Lewis. Running down Leclerc in front of his home fans is such a vibe.

Now the championship is on!

Was Perez in 10th when they pitted him for softs?

If so, interesting team move to pit him and lose spots and a point, just to take away a point from Hamilton

Hamilton channeling his inner Senna. If you can’t win on pure speed, just run your rival off the road and try to kill him.

Even if Max gives Lewis more room I think Lewis hits him. He missed the corner badly

Verstappen tends to bully people on the track (and very occasionally off track) so it's nice to see someone push back. The result was unfortunate but to claim Lewis was alone at fault I don't think is fair. Before they went into the corner Verstappen squeezed Lewis against the wall and then turned into him right before the corner. If I was to lay blame I'd say 55% Lewis to blame, 45% Verstappen. I think the penalty was fair although I'd be leaning more to 5 seconds. It's too bad that the penalty for Verstappen was a DNF and a trip to the hospital.

Push back?
There's a differnce between some wheel banging and putting someone in the hospital (with the risk of injuringn someone very seriously)
Lewis' actions during the race AND after the race do not represent a 7 time world champion. You would've expect that from a young(er) Verstappen 3 or 4 years ago. Lewis took the inside line and if Max wasn't there he would've ended up either in the dirt or lost all of his speed to stay on track.

Max is a straight forward guy who says what he thinks en likes to race on the limit. In a sport full of hypocrites I think that's a blessing. He shook up a sport that was nearly dead.
He doesn't deserve a 'push back' for that I think.

What bothers me the most is the total lack of respect from Lewis after the race. Very unsportsmanlike. Again, that's not 7 time world champion.

Result is that we probably gonna see the fights between these two getting dirtier. (I don't hope so though)

No warm welcome for Lewis at Zandvoort...
(don't think he was getting that anyway )

I thought that was a racing incident. Hamilton was in the space, and there were many many car widths to Max's left. He wasn't boxed in or forced off the track. You don't owe the other driver the entire width of the track, you owe them a car width. Max had much more than that. Max knew exactly where Lewis was, and turned in too tight. Hamilton did this 2 more times(maybe to prove a point?), and no one else turned in on him. This was nice hard, fun racing. Bitching about it just results in lame racing. This was a racing incident, as happens when people race.

Hamilton tried to win the race on the first lap. They were both fighting hard and he overdrove the corner, blew the line. Max didn't give him an inch and was on the losing end of the deal. I gotta tip the blame scale towards Hamilton but I can't say I would have penalized it. That battle was shaping up to be epic, but when it's exciting it means its close and things are gonna happen. Watching each driver trying different lines to try and get a better run out of the corner is so much more fun than waiting for the next drs zone.

Verstappen is a very aggressive driver as well, and often banks on the other driver backing off to his strong moves. Which is great until the other driver doesn’t and you end up on the losing side of the contact.

He had lots of room to the outside, but he wanted to try to slam the door. That, combined with Hamilton drifting a bit wide off the inside line, gave the result. I think if Hamilton had been the one who crashed out from the contact, it could have easily been Verstappen getting the penalty.

Verstappen had also run way wide on an earlier turn (turn 6 maybe) to chop Hamilton, to which he did back off. He was in bad shape trying desperately to hold Hamilton off, and was being very aggressive in trying to prevent the pass.

Jolyon’s take is pretty much what I felt when I was watching it.

Quote:
Jolyon Palmer, former Renault F1 driver

“To be honest, [Lewis] is actually pretty much completely alongside Max – and then you’ve got two championship challengers gunning for the inside line at Copse, and one of them had to back out.

“[Lewis] was completely alongside – obviously he misses the apex slightly and moves into Max, but Max also keeps turning in, and he’s taking a huge risk doing that at Copse corner.

“It’s a tough one, a really tough one. I could have seen it as a racing incident, both racing each other so hard.”
The racial stuff after the race, I just shake my head.

I think it shows how far behind the other teams are. In a sport where seconds matter, to over come a 10 second penalty and still win a race I think makes the rest of the field look bad. Mercedes and Red Bull just MILES ahead in performance than every other team.

I'll try and get results out tomorrow. Was gone fishing and somehow didn't spoiler myself until we could watch the race last night.

I quite liked the sprint race, but I would shorten it. Seemed like the first 5-10 laps were very entertaining with drivers willing to take risks. After that everyone got a lot more cautious and it became a train. I'd also maybe make the tire choice completely random...add a little spice. The teams are so well prepared that there setups are nearly perfectly dialed in.

I agree with most of the comments that the HAM-VER crash was 50/50. Verstappen has definitely cleaned up his driving, but he squeezed HAM up to the wall and was defending down that straight. Tough to see VER take such a hard hit, but glad he's ok.

Some of the comments after were stupid. Marko saying HAM deserves a race ban...LOLOLOL. Already looking forward to Hungary.

Yup, next closest is McLaren and Lando. Weird to see a clear cut #3 constructor and then a gap to the rest.

The sprint race I really want to see is on a flooded track with everyone on inters. The teams would never go for it because it would cost them too much in parts but as fans it would create a pile of fun chaos to watch.

The ultimate would be all the drivers partake in the Monaco Historique. Seeing these guys in old cars would be great fun. Even if they just took part in the last race in 80s or 90s era F1 cars would be enough but I’d mostly want them in older generations.

Spoiler!

Updated standings after British GP!
Spoiler!

Speede5 & Fuzz take top honours this week with 18pts. Both had 3 correctly slotted pics. No extra point for fastest lap this week either as Perez took that.

The last 2 overall champs (me & Agulati) threw up donuts...WTF. It does seem like the sprint qualy had an impact (as well as VER crashing).

Race at the top tightens as Btimbit had a donut as well with DoubleK and TimSJ closing the gap to 5 & 8pts respectively.

Woob I didnt see your pics, so this is your second (and last) carryover.

Next stop is Hungary!
