Why TF is everyone so worried about playoffs. The lack of perspective on the situation at hand is really unsettling

There are other threads for that, I don't think there is anything wrong with discussing the hockey side of it here.

This has to be one of the craziest years of the NHL first with the coaches being fired for there actions and how they treated players. The Covid-19 virus now comes in and is looking like it may cancel the season. Third the oilers in the playoffs. Ok that last one is a joke!! I really don’t see how the league cannot cancel the remainder of the season.

Just to think we are likely at only the tip of the iceberg in terms of infections across the world. I suspect April is really going to be a trying time in terms of world health and world economy which will forever change how we live.

It just seems so hilariously unimportant.

In the difference between life and sports, sure. However what is wrong with super passionate fans who have put a lot of their time following this team discussing the situation as it relates to hockey? Nobody here is saying the playoffs or the Calgary Flames are more important than people's health.

The hockey talk is a nice distraction from real-world issues.

This board is kind of the wrong place to be calling it hilariously unimportant, don't you think?

As opposed to how extremely important sports are all the time?

Just throwing out a thought I had earlier this week — while basketball players literally have fans sitting right next to the court, hockey players are largely isolated within the rink — with boards and glass between them and the fans. So it seemed to me that in terms of safety of the players, NBA players would be at slightly higher risk than NHL.

Of course, that likely means little once you consider the other 19,000 people in the arena, but I thought it was interesting... I’m assuming the NHL isn’t waiting for the first player to be diagnosed with Covid-19 — I mean, why wait?

I’m expecting NHL to announce by Friday morning they are suspending the season.

The situation is just way too fluid to be making any sorts of declarations of this nature.

Sports are always hilariously unimportant compared to most things that happen every day. It is entertainment. That hasn’t changed. If discussing the impact of Coronavirus on sports isn’t of interest to you, this would be the wrong place to hang out.
