Weird non-call. Linesman clearly called it, what made them call it off? I can’t imagine the camera doesn’t count same as out of play.

At the end of the day, Canada was the better team during the tournament.

Canada got a break on the missed call but Russia got a goal on a phantom penalty.

I am guessing we’ll find out that is not considered out of play.

This argument is, in all its forms, ridiculous. If the refs screw you out of a victory, they screwed you, regardless of what you could have done differently earlier.

Could be, but in that case whoever came up with the rule screwed them. If the camera's not there that puck is in the fourth row.
That being said, it was a fun game right until the end. I have to say, TSN should really be given the broadcast rights for all international tournaments in this country. They're excellent at creating this hilariously over the top attitude of patriotism and creating storylines about national heroes and warriors and great moments, even though ultimately this is a tournament full of teenagers. It's pretty great TV.

Canada has had its fair share of insane disaster endings in international hockey. I don’t feel bad about it.

I found it. Rule 135 iv
Quote:
A player who lifts the puck from the defending zone and hits the scoreclock or any structural object above the ice surface, causing a stoppage of play, will not be assessed a penalty.
|
The camera is a structural object.

Thank you very much Girly. Now we can all stop feeling bad about how this game ended. It was the right call.

That’s a weird rule. What if the score clock is at the end of the arena past all the stands, like in most small arenas with no jumbotron?
ETA: That’s not “above the ice surface” I guess. But neither, IMO, was the camera - it was set back a foot or so.

Thanks for the research. Guess they didn't get screwed.

Of course its above the ice surface. The ice surface is the floor.

What a great game and a great tournament. This talk about the officiating is really tiresome.

It's always nice to have a good ole Kootenay boy win the gold. Nice job Byram!
And screw you Avs for drafting him. Blah.

It’s outside the playing surface, outside the glass. Even said on the broadcast. Rule doesn’t apply.
