It was a late hockey hit to the head to a defenceless player.
If that was, especially now after his goal, Stone hitting Peterssen like that in his first game, you’d have Randorf jumping out of the press box and the entire intermission related to that hit. It was exactly the stuff they want to remove from the game but it was marginalized by Randorf and Debrusk.

6'2" 211 Eller against 5'9" 181 Marchand looked like a mismatch.

Dressing utterly useless fools early in the season is a HUGE part of why the Flames have sucked so hard in October in recent years.
Raitis Ivanans.
Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond.
Stefan Meyer.
These guys were all terrible hockey players who existed to provide a "veteran presence." Every single one of those guys recorded pro seasons of 130+ penalty minutes. They were all horrific at hockey and couldn't keep up.
Intangibles are USELESS when considered on their own. Just useless.

I believe in the Jays.

Why is this so hard? An illegal cheap shot to the head should be punished by the refs and the league. We shouldn't have to dress plugs just because the league can't protect it's players. What a piss off.

It’s a psychological effect.
Canucks are flying, Pettersson isn’t scared out there at all.

if the team is intimidated by the Vancouver Canucks, an enforcer isn't going to change that.

In fairness, I caught it and in no way are the Habs goals ‘highlights’.

nah, it's the floating drop passes on the ensuing powerplay, missed shots and lackadaisacal pace.
This game could be 3 or 4 deficit without Smith.
I hope someone's ripping a strip in the lockeroom right now.

If the Flames had scored on that powerplay, we are talking about none of this.
Imagine that.

Ok, listen, it is unreasonable to dress a fighter against this Canucks lineup. Even if Gudbranson is the toughest guy in their lineup, he had all of two fights last year.
Two.
Yeah, he can throw a hit, but he's not a traditionally dirty player and he certainly isn't a goon.
It's a really unfortunate situation, but it doesn't mean we have to start dressing a goon just to deal with these one off instances when they occur.

You do if you have a guy in his weight class, the Flames don’t. Hamonic is lucky if his orbital bone isn’t shattered, and we get Stone in the top four, brilliant.

I agree, a heavyweight is useless in the lineup. Except for when the other team has a dirt bag. Someone on your team is going to step up, you don’t want it to be a player that should be logging regular minutes.
I’m torn on the whole thing.... I don’t want a Tom wilson and I don’t want a guy who can only fight.
|
I think this is where a guy like Harmonic makes life hell for him every chance he gets
Bennett, Tkachuk and Neal should be playing them through the boards. Lindholm, Giordano, and Jankowski should be getting involved wherever they can.
You can punish a team without fade punching, and they are more than capable of making them pay.

Yes hammer can usually hold his own but is always going to have a tough time against someone like Gudbrandson, who as I stated beat Prout in the past.
|
Burke is wrong, as his solution is to dress a Prout or Peluso, who would be a liability outside of face punching.
Where the Flames are deficient is in the area of an Engelland-type player - a guy who can contribute regularly, but also fill the role of enforcer.

So, explain to me how you get your power play working at 100%, so you can guarantee a goal every time one of your players takes a cheap shot.
If you can answer that, every team in the NHL will want to hire you as a PP coach.
