Did I hear correctly today that since a shootout loss in the preliminary round last year, Sweden has won 17 straight World Championship matches? That's bonkers.

Backlund is really getting a lot of kudos for his role of captain for the Swedes.
Played at a PPG pace and really played well throughout the tournament. Showed a lot of leadership and confidence.
Give this man Brouwers A.

It was a regulation loss to the Americans, but yes, they've won 17 straight since then.
They opened last year's tournament with a SO loss to Russia, a win over Germany, and a regulation loss to the USA. Then, they won 7 in a row to get gold last year and a perfect 10-0 this year.

From what we saw this tournament can the Flames use Backlund more offensively? Go get a true checking center to relieve Backlund of those duties and let him loose with Tkachuk and Frolik.
