If a team hits injury problems between now and the playoffs they could trade for Wideman as a stop gap, but he wouldn't be playoff eligible.

They might be able to trade him after the season. There is a short window to get a deal done before the expansion draft. Teams aren't going to be lining up to take him on knowing a buy-out possibility exists either.
Worst case is being forced to protect him and losing Murray.

Picks acquired with Glencross at the deadline were used with the Flames own picks at the draft to acquire Dougie and trade up for Kylington

Friedman on trades left on the table:

Flames related:
Quote:
Lightning GM Steve Yzerman called Los Angeles “the only taker” for Ben Bishop. Calgary was involved to some degree, but the Kings were ready when Yzerman needed his final answer. Bishop has said he thought he was going to Alberta last summer, and it’s believed the Flames were preparing a six-year offer in the $36M range. But that crumbled at the end, and, well, I’ve gotten in enough fights the last three weeks.

28. Calgary inquired on Marc-Andre Fleury a few weeks ago, but I don’t think it was anywhere near close. For one thing, getting him to go there might take an off-season trip, because it’s somewhere he’s unfamiliar with. Second, I don’t see the match on an in-season trade. I take Jim Rutherford at face value when he says his preference was to keep Fleury as Matt Murray injury insurance. Like Duchene and Landeskog, the market may be larger after the season. Fleury may also be willing to expand his list of potential destinations since he just wants to play.
29. Not surprised Calgary is sitting out Curtis Lazar the first game he is eligible to play for the Flames. Also don’t think it’s a guarantee Lazar’s arrival means Sam Bennett moves to wing. There is an option to try some things, but you don’t disrupt a surging team as you rebuild Lazar’s confidence.

I can't see any way he is traded out without adding a big sweetener on top in the off-season.
Teams will be in a holding pattern waiting for Rutherford to buyout MAF. Bishop will almost assuredly be a UFA, so teams will hold out for him if they feel they have a shot at signing him. Miller might be a UFA - though with being so location specific, might not factor in.
However, you also have a lot of young up-and-coming goaltenders that are also looking like they are ready to become starters, and who teams are likely to want to trade so they don't lose them for anything either. Couple that with what is probably going to be a very short list of teams looking for goalies (Vancouver maybe, Dallas, Winnipeg, maybe St. Louis).
If I am Treliving and I suddenly prefer MAF to Elliott, my trade request would be future considerations at best, and I would be comfortable holding out for one of the other goalies available. It is more difficult for Rutherford as teams probably have other goalies ranked higher on their list this off-season.
I really do think it is going to be the choice between a buyout and negative-value trade for Pittsburgh. Either way, it is the price you pay when they try to ensure they have competent goaltending for the cup run, and you can't argue with that.
The real mistake was not trading him last season. I don't think anyone would have blinked an eye if Treliving acquired MAF for a 2nd round pick - would have been thought of as a steal in many circles. That ship has long sailed.

If it costed the Flames a 2nd to include the 3 million Kotalik in the Regehr deal.
What would the price be to trade M.A. Fleury? (8 million buyout over 4 years)
1st & 2nd?
two 2nd's & 3rd?

Granlund for Shinkaruk was around the deadline, wasn't it? There was also Knight for Shore but that didn't amount to much for anyone.

Didn't' we get Kevin last year and send him out this year? I know he just left but I miss him already....

Not nearly. Kotalik was a pure cap dump; Fleury is still a useful NHL goalie. On top of that, the Regehr trade was badly botched.
If you assume that Fleury is going to be out of the league next season, and that Rutherford is going to completely foul up the deal… then yes, the price might be that high. But those are some mighty big assumptions.
