Flames could use a skilled high end RW for sure
Hudler is no longer that guy though, I would be shocked if he is even in the NHL next season

What I am saying is that some opinions are more educated than others, and that 29 GMs passed on Hudler at anything more than a one year, $2M contract - since they could have signed him ahead of August 24. For a vet one year removed from a great season, that's a pretty minimal deal. As for the rest of the rant:
a. Forums are, ideally, for exchange of well-articulated thoughts.
b. I'm sure you watch games.
c. I doubt Hamilton is the next Norris winner. He might be one someday, I guess. But moreover, what's the relevance of that?
d. You seem to know little of the Gilmour deal, since Gilmour had already signed a contract months before. He may well have felt ripped off, but he signed. And yeah, Risebrough knew more than we all did. Fletcher knew more than Risebrough though.
e. Everyone's opinion is moot, unless they have some control or influence on the team.

For all intents and purposes Treliving tried very hard to move up in the draft to take Puljujarvi but the deal fell through when Chiarelli realized that the Jackets were set on taking Dubios.
I feel it worked out better in the long run as we didn't trade any assets and had Tkachuk fall into our laps who is quickly becoming one of my favorite Flames

Was it confirmed to be Puljujarvi? (as confirmed as it could be)

I guess it wasn't confirmed outside of the fact when interviewed Burke/Conroy/Treliving mentioned the top 3 in the draft that was consensus

Actually it was the Flames that felt ripped off, that's why they traded his deal. It was very obvious Fletcher knew more than Risebrough. Seems we keep getting stuck with the Risebrough types.
Hamilton would have to be in the discussion of Norris in the future to justify the trade and picks given up to get him. So far, it's been a bust for the Flames. He's playing ok lately. When Hamilton plays ok the Flames win, when he plays poorly the Flames lose. Kind of like football, if you see a weakness you exploit it if you are the other team.
Everyone's point is not moot? If no one had a point on the Flames, the Flames had better be a very concerned hockey club.

Seriously?
Dougie Hamilton is Calgary's #3 at 23 years old. 23! He would be a top 4 on pretty much any team in the league. None of the 3 Bruins picks from Calgary have yet to play a single NHL game (and let's not assume they would have picked homerun picks with these 3 picks). Hamilton is also on pace for another 40+ point season as a defenseman, with limited Power play time. He has his personal best in points despite a poor start to the year
How in the world can you call that trade a bust by any measure? He may have been underperforming compared to expectations, but in no way does that make that trade a bust.

The Flames gave up 3 draft picks for him.
Two of those picks are still in the CHL in their draft + 2 year. And the other is in the NCAA. There is no guarantee any of them ever play in the NHL. Senyshyn, the 1st rounder, is less than a point a game as a 19 year old in the OHL.
But in your mind, Hamilton has to be in the Norris conversation to justify the trade? Unbelievable how unrealistic some fans can be.
How about we wait until one of them actually plays an NHL game before we call the trade a bust for the Flames, okay?

To say Hamilton would have to win the Norris is absurd. A middle pick in the first round of a weaker draft and a couple of mid to late seconds. He's currently playing on our top pairing and has been for the duration of this hotstreak, and has looked good doing it. I would say getting a top pairing, young, big, 40 pt defenceman is worth a few picks. If you want an example of poor asset management look up north what the oilers spent to get a #4 defenceman with a fraction of the pedigree.

His first year in Calgary, he's shouldn't have been on the team. He should have been playing in the AHL. That's how bad it was. I can't count the amount of times Hamilton breaks position and gets caught up ice. Break away after break away after break away. He's beginning to learn he can't skate like Gio or Brodie can, and get back, so he needs to pick his times and more importantly when to retreat.
Ramo was a .906 save percentage last year despite bad defense. Last I looked Johnson is .911 (probably better now with some shutouts) Elliott .880 something. I don't want to hear any more crap on bad goaltending. Look at our goals again'st... pa-the-tic! If the Flames were even an average team at defense, I wouldn't say much. I feel far more optimistic about our offense improving than our defense improving. They're getting chances, but the other team is getting some huge chances too and they're cashing in. We're last in the league on PP and PK, is Hamilton on both?

The hyperbole people will use to try to discredit Hamilton is shocking. Should have been playing in the AHL? Lord fella, easy.

I think he along with his defense partner were -20 at the start of the year. If you think that's NHL caliber, then I think you are sadly mistaken.
You think if Kulak was a -20 he'd be playing now? LOL

^ I agree with MMF -- it's absolutely ridiculous the lengths people will go to to denounce him. This is a guy who set career highs in virtually every category last year. How is that at all AHL-worthy?

Promise?
Seriously, do you promise?
Because here's an interesting stat...
In October, the Flames were 30th in goals against (as everyone knows).
But what many may not know is that, in November, the Flames are 16th in goals against. For those of you that find math hard, 16th is middle of the pack, or very average.
The best part about it, is that their resurgence defensively has come with increased ice-time for Hamilton while he has been on the top pairing with Giordano.

I'm not going to look this up but was Dougie even abe to be sent down without waivers last year? If not then there would be 29 teams making a claim the minute he hit the waiver wire. Yeesh.

Your use of plus-minus completely repudiates your argument.

Yeah, it was an atrocious start but the start of the season isn't the season entire. Hamilton was nothing short of fantastic from the middle on, roughly. Once Wideman was suspended and Hartley was forced to put him on the PP both his play and the powerplay steadily improved.
Quote:

No, he isn't. Hamilton has just over a minute of SH TOI/GP, which is essentially just out killing the final seconds. That time per game places him 5th for blueliners.
Certainly does play the powerplay, 2nd in ice time but almost a full minute behind Giordano. Dougie is a much better powerplay guy then Gio and I'd love to see his role expanded there.
I think steadily increasing his role and icetime will lead to a better Calgary team.

Nope. Wasn't -20.
He started the season going -11 in the first 9 games as he struggled with Hartley's passive defensive system. Then he got going and was a plus player by Christmas.
But hey, don't let facts get in the way of some good hyperbole.

He ended the season at like - 14 though right? Not that it really matters, the whole team was terrible defensively.

As Hamilton goes, so will the Flames. When you get an underperforming defenseman getting 2nd or 3rd minutes it shows. I've said Hamilton is playing better last week or 2. It can make a big difference when a defenseman is getting them minutes for better or worse.
