I would switch the Cs...

Crosby with Tavares and Stamkos
Toews with Marchand and Bergeron, and
Giroux with Couture and Seguin (Seguin in the middle)
And Getzlaf with Perry and Duchene

Muzzin is a solid player and deserves to be there.

Bouwmeester, however..

I like Johnny with Eichel or McDavid, but i'm not sold on Saad being on that line.

You have 2 dominant offensive players. I'd like to see them put another offensive dynamo. I understand putting the speedster Saad out there, but i'd like to see 3 offensive dynamos on the same line to see what they could do.

Saad had 31 goals last season, more than any other player on the Team North America roster. Makes sense to me to put him on a line with the team's best play-maker.

Jeez, outside of Perry and Marchand, who made this team as a natural winger?

And Perry was a fill in for Carter who is a centre as well.

That's remarkable. One natural winger makes the initial roster, and it's Brad Marchand.

So they brought in Bouwmeester because he's a lefty who is comfortable playing with Pietrangelo, who is now playing on the left side with Burns? That's interesting.

As much as I disdain Mr Bouwmeester, if he's only going to be the 7th D, and your top six already looks like that... Whatever. Take the guy who's played 51 international games, two Olympics, and a World Cup, who the coach knows and trusts.

He still sucks and will never win a Stanley Cup.

Kind of OT, but I would love to see some type of inter-league challenge cup instead of a series of NHL all-star games. I just think the players would be playing harder and the results would be more interesting. Granted, the NHL teams would win more often than not, but I would expect some upsets and it would be interesting to see where different leagues stack up against each other in the world.

Include the top teams from the three big NA professional leagues and the top teams from the KHL, Swiss, German, Czech, Slovak, Austrian, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, French, Italian, British and Danish leagues.

I think that would be awesome actually. Europe already has a Champions League type tournament I believe, so the NA clubs could piggy back onto that.

I would just tweak it slightly. Drop a couple of those really bad leagues like Britian, and replace with a few entrants from the top leagues instead. A 16 team Champions League type tourney

1. Stanley Cup Champion
2. President's trophy winners (if same as SC winner, 2nd highest point total
3. SC runner up.
4. AHL Champion
5. AHL Regular season point winner
6. KHL Champion
7. KHL Runner up
8. KHL regular season point winner
9. Swiss Champion
10. German Champion
11. Czech Champion
12. Slovak Champion
13. Austrian Champion
14. Swedish Champion
15. Finnish Champion
16. Norwegian Champion

The bottom few league champions can be assigned coefficients (like they do in soccer) and they change out based on league strength from year to year.

Problem with that is, it'll probably have the opposite impact on effort that you're thinking. Soccer has a similar tournament called the International Champions Cup, and it's not taken all that seriously (they're considered friendlies).

Plus, no way are the Blackhawks or Penguins going to put in even 70% effort against a Danish league team. They'd crush them. The parity amongst these leagues isn't even relatively close.

Owners would never go for it. Heck they don't even want certain players going to the Olympics. Today's NHL is very insular.

Europe's Champions League is the Spengler Cup.

That's going to happen.. all tournaments start off like this. UEFA's Champions League as we know it now started in 1955 and Real Madrid crushed everyone and won the first 5 in a row. The competition could have died right then and there but in fact the other teams faced the target and got better and the Spanish League didn't take their ball and go home when they lost. Today Bayern(Germany) will probably crush the Danish Champions.. but that's how teams improve.

What would be the attraction of having an NHL team play against a team that didn't have a single player that could crack the NHL lineup?

It wouldn't be interesting for the players and it wouldn't be interesting for the fans - well, not for NHL fans anyway.

Also, what are the 'three big NA professional leagues'?
