Great trade obviously for you guys. I have no idea what Boston is doing. It seems they want to move up in the draft for #3. They have 14 and 15 now. Would Arizona do that? I wouldn't.

So being a RFA at the end of the season, do teams typically have a gentleman's agreement with the player that he will in fact sign with the team? Or has the extension been negotiated already?
I can't imagine a team making a move like this if the contract aspect was anything but a certainty. I'm just curious as to how it works behind the scenes.

Can we replay the Ducks series, but this time with Giordano and Hamilton in the line up?

I think Arizona would consider 14, 15, 45 for 3

This is the dawning of a new era for the Flames. I know we've been rebuilding already but I feel as promising as things were looking, we needed that stud young defenseman to develop along side Monahan, Gaudreau and Bennet. This sets up the team so well to become a true contender. It's amazing.

I have to think now that Chiarellie wasn't the problem in Boston. Possibly those higher up then him are calling the shots?
This trade isn't even fair, and I'd like to apologize to Bruin's fans. I mean, it's not like we asked for this....
But it happened!!! Still in shock. Finally, the Flames win a MASSIVE trade by a landslide!!

Now, they just need to send out the press release announcing his signing as the Oilers are walking up to the stage tonight.

Well, maybe we "asked" for it, but we were totally joking. Didn't think it would actually happen.

Fixed that for you. What a steal of a trade, at least on paper.
I keep seeing it posted that we'll be a contender in 3-5 years. I think that's nonsense though. There's no reason our Cup window can't open as early as this upcoming season.
We are realistically 1 more top 6 forward and a #1 goalie away from being a legit contender.
Now days you win with elite young talent.
Chicago won their first Cup when Toews/Kane were 22/21. Next year Johnny/Monny are 22/21.
Pens won when Crosby was still young and haven't come close since.
If anything it's easier to win when your superstars are young and not getting paid top end UFA dollars.
When you consider our roster + cap space and add in an excess of nhl ready forwards (ferland, granlund, poirier, jooris, shore), there is no reason we can't get the remaining pieces to be a legit contender between this summer and the trade deadline.
Great times ahead.

This is like one of those idiotic trade proposals made on HF boards
Trade Proposal: Hey how about this one guys? A mid 1st, two mid 2nds for Dougie Hamilton???? Hey, hey?
Or how about mid 1st, Glencross and Baertshi for Hamilton.
Everyone else:
Ha ha ha. Why would Boston ever do that? Get real

You know what? This makes McDavid going to Edmonton not hurt so much. What a day for Alberta hockey teams.

I doubt this. He can't be offer sheeted for a few days yet. That's plenty of time to work out a better deal with another team or a sign and trade with another team. They could also just go back to Edmonton and threaten to trade him elsewhere unless Edmonton made a trade (a better offer than an offer sheet).

I don't think there's a "payback". I don't think the Bruins had any other option once it became clear internally that Hamilton wasn't going to sign. I can't believe their weren't other teams in on this though.
Or, they knew the only option that was coming was Chirelli sending an offer sheet offer July 1 at 10:01 am for a similar return. So, trade him to that team's main rival.
And great to see the comments about him following the team this year and it's rise. Sure, its lip service at this point, but it just goes to show how last season, and making the playoff, raises the profile of the franchise. Am sure we'll hear those words from other players on July 1, who, sitting on the fence previous, saw the energy in this city come playoff time and decided this where they want to play.
