If you're looking to head out to the Glowing Sea during the story quests, I'd really suggest finding a Hazmat suit first. Better than burning through a fusion core on the power armor.
There's a couple just lying around at the end of the 'Tradecraft' quest you do for the Railroad. The one where you find the Deliverer pistol (which is awesome). It's not a super hard quest and you can take in two companions -- I'd recommend doing it before you head into the Glowing Sea.

If you do the side quests for Mr. Cabot, you end up with several vials of a Mysterious Serum. The rad resists it gives you are the highest in the game and it lasts for a very long time. Stacked some Rad-x on top and I could stand right in the middle of the bomb crater with no ill effect. I preferred that over taking off my good armor when exploring the most dangerous area in the game

I found a Glowing Deathclaw in the Glowing Sea, so I'm never going back there.

Deathclaws are easy now. If I get the drop on them a single Gauss rifle headshot is enough, otherwise my combat shotgun with exploding ammunition makes short work of them. It's very satisfying to blow off their legs and watch them struggle on the ground unable to come after you
Bloodbugs however, those things can FOAD

Have you found a Glowing Deathclaw though?
Tough as hell. Far harder than The Swan or the Mirelurk Queen. I used power armour, a minigun and a fatman and it still took me a few tries.

Yes, fair. I had to be quite sneaky, only had to do 1 group of Scorpions and 1 group of easy ghouls on my way out.
I don't see myself exploring it much!

Yep, found one near the edge of the Glowing Sea at Robotics Pioneer Park. Took a single sneak damage headshot from my Gauss rifle. Then I found the 4 Protectorons I could let out, so I re-loaded and let them duke it out with Mr. Green. That was more satisfying to watch

If you don't want your power armor experience to be tied down to rooting for power cores, here's a mod that lets you configure how fast they drain (or not at all)
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/325/?
I was waiting for this before making my "big & loud" character to compliment my sneaking in the shadows one

I don't want my power armour experience to be tied down to a ui change.
I didn't think it would bug me as much as it does. Actually, at the time I didn't think it would bug me at all and was excited for the change.
Now? It just irks me. I feel like I NEED mini-gun. It feels slower, cumbersome. I can't sneak.

Just got Fallout on Friday. Haven't put much into it but I plan on wasting the entire afternoon and most of tomorrow sitting on my couch.

Haha I stumbled upon the Custom House Tower and ventured inside. A few turrets and bandits... No biggie. Then this alarm goes off and I got utterly face-####ed by a Sentry bot and an Assaultron. Turns out there is some pretty nice armour in there, but I'm going to need a few more levels before going back.

The other mod I'm using is the expanded ballistic weave mod
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1860/?
I found it silly that I could mod a dirty shirt and pants to have tons of armor, but the sweet BoS Officer uniform that I "found" couldn't be. Now I can be an unstoppable killing machine and look good while doing it

Me too. Forget where I came across it but was looking around a room, minding my own business. Looking down at the floor and pan up and that thing is filling my screen. Immediately booked it out of the room expecting it to blow up or something. Stood out in the hallway for a few minutes before cautiously going back in.

You should always shoot them in the head as fast as possible. They can set off traps or let enemies know that you're there. Or sometimes they do nothing but creep you out.

Any tips where to find a decent rifle? I only have one atm and it only does 13damage I think? I'd like to be able to do some sniping from afar and then cruise in with a minigun to finish off baddies. I've only run into a couple vendors and they didn't seem to have anything great either.

The gun shop in Diamond City seems to be pretty good. I found a good sniper rifle for sale there.

Ah, very good, thanks. Haven't been into Diamond City yet. That's my next destination. Think one of my quests wants me to go there.
