That's like, an extra 9 blocks to walk dude.

The walking distance from the Saddledome to Flames Central is 1.7 km. From the Saddledome to the Ship & Anchor is 1.6 km.

And you can easily take the C-Train there if you are too lazy (or drunk) to walk.

Also, some big screens in Olympic Plaza would be awesome for fans who want the experience of cheering together, but can't get in to the 'Dome or don't want to go to a bar. It's also just a short LRT hop from the 'Dome.

Can we stop with this already? This "new red mile" (which is a pointless term, it's the Red Mile) is no less "organic" than in 2004.
The dome pretty much exits onto 17th ... where there are a ton of bars ... which is why it's a natural gathering point. Which is why it's happening now and why it happened in 2004.

Not really, it's a 10 minute walk from the dome just to get the start of 17th.
If you go down Olympic Way and make a few turns you can be at Stephen in the same amount of time. Now, thousands of people cutting through downtown could pose a problem vs everyone on 17th the whole way and they just have to shut it down.
You could also take the train which takes all of 5 mins from there.
The bars are not the same as they were in 2004. There are less of them and some have gone through massive changes. There are more bars on Stephen and they are closer together. Would make bar hopping much easier and more fun IMO.
And again, i really do find it odd that the Flames aren't pushing to get people over there and make FlamesCentral the main gathering point. I think TVs and food trucks (festival-like atmosphere) in Olympic park would be great.

The Flames probably don't trust the crowd. FC is booked solid throughout the playoffs. No need for the extra risk of encouraging a massive party to be happening right in front of their location.

I'll need to see FDA studies on this. I need proof it's not a GMO laden Red Mile.

Do we know for sure that Stephen Ave. wasn't a party? Was anyone on CP watching the game in that area?

So if it's Olympic Plaza, would this need to be a City of Calgary event? Or do the flames book it and run it themselves.
Something for game one and two needs to be organized. Even if it's just opening up the dome to watch.

#RedMile2015 by the numbers. Police arrested total of 6 people. 2 in relation to media harassment, 1 for not wearing pants, 1 for fireworks.
@AnnaliseAK More #RedMile2015 by the numbers: Lots-# of alcohol in public offences, 5-calls for assault, 7-noise complaints, 3-property damage cmplnts.
@AnnaliseAK To the very, very small group of people who might think the crowd will provide them anonymity, we’re still out there,” police say.

You gotta be pretty hopeful and optimistic to think a noise complaint would have an effect of the Red Mile.

Question for some of the younger folk on here, how's the red mile been on the West side of 17th ave, closer to 14th street. Haven't really been down there this run, as I am 10 years older then I was in 04
But I remember in 04 there was almost like 2 central spots where it got really busy (relatively speaking, the whole damn thing was busy). Right out front of Melrose so 8th to 6th blocks, and then the obvious 4th to 5th block where the Ship is. I assume the latter is still really busy, but wondering with the additions of Jaimeson's and that Pint's place and 1410 becoming a bigger spot if that far corner is now also a busy spot?

Epicentre is 17 Ave and 5 St SW right outside National/Ship. 17 Ave wasn't even closed at 14 St near 1410/Morgan's/The Pint.

Makes sense, wondered if those bars had created a 2nd west side epic center, sounds like no, at least not yet!

It wasn't closed, but there were revellers all the way to 14th, culminating, and ending, at the pub at that corner (can't remember the name of it)

Man - the bar my band used to play at was on 17th and 4th, but it got sold and turned into the nightmarish Tilted Kilt. It would have been wild to play there now.
