Final touches to a Cup winner might be closer to say adding a Ruslan Fedetenko?

Wow.... This is out of nowhere.... I wonder if Feaster was taken off guard with this as well. Surprised to see that Burke is planning on bringing in a replacement. When I first heard I figured he fired Feaster to take the GM job as well.

Possible Theory:
- Burke wanted to get a trade done for the rumored-to-be-available E. Kane
- Burke proposes to put Baertschi in the deal - one of Feaster's picks, Feaster doesn't want to give up on him, Feaster's fired.
- Burke proposes to put Gaudreau (or hopefully a lower potential US college kid, but Burke's talk about getting bigger makes me think he might not fit in Burke's Flames) in the deal - one of the kids Weisbrod pushed for to draft, Weisbrod doesn't agree with Burke, Weisbrod's fired.
- sometime in the next 48hrs, trade?
... all speculation of course... I'd just like to see some roster moves continue to keep moving the RB forward.

Could've drafted Hertl, but we traded down. That's a pretty big error in judgement.

If, at any point from now on, Brian Burke references "truculence" as a motivation for a signing, trade acquisition, or draft pick, I request he be shot.

Svens inconsistency is partly due to coaching. If Burke wants him to play at the same level every game, Hartley needs to give him those minutes every game.

I also hope this shuts up the "but its christmas, think of their families" crowd....
If we get Mike Futa out of this, I will be very happy.

i would probably do this too... if you have to include this year's first, or Gaudreau, don't approach.
On a side note, I think this move today cement's Ferland's position with the Flames....

Just saw the news and all I can say is what the hell?!?!?
All in all I thought Feaster was doing alright.

Hindsight is 20/20 but a lot of people around the league felt the Flames weren't in position to reach for a kid in the 1st round. He hasn't been declared a bust but it's looking like he may not pan out into the player Wisebrod thought he would be.

The most interesting comment Burke made was about not getting full value in trades. Very revealing.

Biggest thing I like about this is that Burke is unafraid of moving sacred cows. Trade Backlund, Baertschi, whomever - if the return makes us a better team, more capable of wins, he'll do it. He (or his new gm) will make mistakes, but that's to be expected.
The sacred cows in Edmonton are preventing them from turning good assets into an effective hockey team.

WOW! Unexpected to say the least.
I am mixed on this because I felt Feaster and Weisbroad had the right idea about what the Flames needed to do moving forward. There are seemingly a lot of good prospects in the system now and they built a team that works hard on a nightly basis.
The O'Reilly situation last year was one that really stands out to me as something as quite glaring though. That to me screamed incompetence.
The Iginla and Bouwmeester trades are also something that stand out to me as disappointing. The Iginla trade was bizarrely managed and the return for Bouwmeester, who is playing top minutes on one of the best defensive teams in the entire league, was extremely disappointing.
Weisbroad did seem like a guy who knew what he was doing and our drafting has improved significantly since he came along. I am disappointed to see him fired.
Burke's team now! Hard to believe.

If Burke doesn't like the way the team has been drafting the last couple years, you have to think he doesn't like Jankowski, and at least another of the 1st/2nd rounders. His approach seems to be that if you're not an elite offensive talent, you need to be big or play big.

But he should have never traded Bouwmeester if that was the return. Bouwmeester was 29 years old with an additional year left. It's not proposterous to rebuild around Bouwmeester, Captain Giordano, Wideman and Brodie. Adding Russell to that would have sent Butler to Mars.
|
Keeping Bouwmeester for one more year would have been terrible asset management. You think a 30 year old UFA would've stayed for a rebuild?
If the answer was no, and you held onto him for another year, we'd likely be slightly higher in the standings this year than now. So what would you have after this year? Maybe two first round draft picks this year with likely a slightly worse one for their own pick. Instead we got three firsts in a much, much deeper draft last year and lively a better one this year.
Totally the right move
