Tanguay would be a prime target for a compliance buyout IMO, as well. Skilled player, good player...but when things weren't going his way under Keenan, he started complaning about it and packed it in.
Now, with the sole reason for him having a second life and this past big NHL contract now playing in Pittsburgh, we'll see if his attitude has changed since then and will play the next 2+ seasons up to the value of his contract.

If Edmonton had D prospects, they'd already have rushed them on to the ice. Anyway, you're ridiculously overvaluing Bouwmeester.

Compliance buyout? That makes no sense at all. He only makes 3.5M and we're in no cap trouble even with the cap going down.

Not disputing what you're saying at all, but Tanguay would probably really improve Kesler's numbers. Having a guy who can pass him the puck without breaking stride is what his line is missing.

I think Tanguay would look excellent with Kesler and another defensively responsible winger and that's why Gillis is probably interested in him. He has his holes, but a play making winger like him could really improve that line. But Schneider has the potential to be a franchise goalie and you don't trade one of those away for a 33 year old to play on your 2nd line. I honestly think the Canucks see Schneider as untouchable at this point.

well why wouldnt feaster trade tanguay to anyone else now at the deadline and acquire some more picks/prospects and then just wait and sign Raymond in the offseason as a FA?

Can we stop talking ridiculous scenarios that 100% will not happen, and start talking realistic scenarios involving the subject of this entire thread; Jbo?

First Negotiation rights? Not to get into a bidding battle with other teams? Try not to use your head too much to figure that one out.

It makes al lot of sense.
It's about changing the culture and changing the team.
Furthermore, if you actually read browna's post he is suggesting that Alex may mail it in now that Iginla is gone based on past behavior.

Yes. regardless of the fact that he is a Canuck, he is a good young player and would be usefull to the Flames going forward. but to have the chance to take him off of the market before someone else overpays for him would be good business.

so as the flames are a rebuilding team, and likely not a cap team, you want to dish tanguay to essentially woo raymond to save ~1-1.5 mill on his contract as opposed to acquiring picks/prospects that could potentially jump start the rebuild? or give us a slightly better chance of signing him.
end of the day, raymond has to choose calgary, so why not wait till FA

Gotta be able to trade him for something if he agrees to go, shouldn't we?

Eh, I'm guessing there is a market for him out there for trade.

Tanguay will not be bought out. Feaster just inked that 5 year contract himself last year.
Trade a thousand times more likely.

Hope there is, and the Flames should be exploring that intently right now and see if there is...and shouldn't hesitate too long if he's willing to waive.
I am guessing the market will be softer for a guy like him in the offseason, unless he can hook up with Iginla's July 5th team.
But after all that, if there's no interest, I think the Flames have to give serious consideration to cutting ties...can't see him being happy here long term.

You're getting really silly. There's no rush to buyout Tanguay.
Nevermind that he's a 60+ point player who has won a Stanley Cup on a $3.5M contract.
If we don't get his true value back in a trade, he'll be good for padding the stats of our younger players.
