I'm not going to judge his numbers very much this year. If he was born a few days earlier he wouldn't of even made it into the draft. He's basically a kid playing with men. Give him another year or two and see if there's some progress.
I'm honestly not worried about his weight at this point. Its hard to put weight on at that age, combined with the amount of exercise he's doing and the stress of first year university.
We'll see where he's at following a solid off-season of training. He didn't look out of place at the prospects camp last year and he seems to me like he has taken some strides this year.
At the very least, we'll see a player that has benefited from a full year of playing with men.
Not sure how easy it would be for him to pack on muscle during the season considering he probably burns a lot of calories due to practice, games, training, etc, etc.
But it is possible. He just needs to eat more. There is no such thing as a metabolism that can outpace any amount of calories.
It might require up to 7000 calories per day, but it is possible.
Not to derail the thread but Tim Scaller had 5 points in that game for Providence. Kid was at Flames development camp and with Janko and Gillies here in the system, he's likely someone to keep an eye on if you are a Flames fan. Big centremen with leadership skills and the Flames already have a relationship with him.

Hockey East Freshman Scoring Leaders:
Kevin Roy: 17-17-34, May 20 1993 (16 months older)
Danny O'Regan: 12-14-26, Jan 30 1994 (7.5 months older)
Devin Shore: 3-16-19, Jul 19 1994 (2 months older)
Mike Matheson (D): 6-12-18, Feb 27 1994 (6.5 months older)
Matt Grzelcyk (D): 3-15-18, Jan 5 1994 (8 months older)
Ryan McGrath: 6-11-17, Jul 13 1991(3 yrs, 2 months older)
Christian Folin (D): 3-12-15, Feb 9 1991 (3 yrs 7 months older)
Mark Jankowski: 6-8-14, Sep 13 1994
The 4 points in 5 games for Janko has caused him to jump on the freshman scoring list. Throw out McGrath & Folin for being significantly older then everyone else and he's sitting a solid sixth. Pretty solid for a kid who is so much young then his competition. Hopefully he can add to his totals tonight and jump even higher on the list.

After Jankowski makes that great set up, I found it funny that the colour commentator was saying what a great play it was by Mauermann, the player who scored the goal, albeit a good goal, and no props to Jankowski.

I agree and have a feeling that he will be one of the college free agents that they will try to target this year (assuming they haven't filled the contracts up with goalie signings). I remember his interview from the development camp and he struck me as a pretty smart guy...seems exactly the type of player they are looking for.
I remember when we picked Chucko. I totally followed him at Minnesota. I totally don't want to but I get the same feeling with Janko. Good player but not that special quality to be an NHLer. It is early and all that, but NHL players are dominators and he just seems middling. God I hope I am wrong. But if I had a gun put to my head and someone forced me to put $1000 on him being an NHLer I would not do it.
**disclaimer, I have not watched him play. Lie that would make my views any more learned.
You're just a typical gun shy Flames fan and betting against a prospect is always the easy bet.
Chucko never pulled off some of the skill moves Jankowski has.
