Anyway, they WILL tweak the goalies. The perfect goalie is the thing they came up with this year so that they can start from there and adjust to allow certain goals to go in some of the time. So they can turn down the awesome on the diving cross-crease saves pretty easily, and fix exploits at the same time. For example, goalies let in shots from really sharp angles a LOT, to the extent that I was playing EASHL this weekend and one dude would, on every rush, skate down until he was a bit short of the icing line and snap a wrister far side top corner. Scored with about 33% effectiveness.
That said, I don't mind the supergoalies on the cross-crease so much, because it forces you to do other things - look for point shots, snipe off the wing, or go for rebounds off the pads, a lot more than last year. What bugs me isn't the goalie stops, it's the fact that more than 50% of the time if you try to do a one-timer, the guy will either miss the net or whiff on the puck completely. They're like 8 year olds, unable to time the shot for the life of them. The passing is also way off, you'll miss a lot of the time where you're trying to pass, and with the defensive improvements, the game actually disincentivizes passing. That's not a great situation for EASHL - I already was hesitant to look for the pass because interceptions kill your team play rating.
I actually agree strongly with the video. The problem was never the goalies imo. In an NHL game a tape to tape cross-crease pass will go in most of the time. The issue is that a tape-to-tape cross-crease pass like that doesn't happen that often because the D is on it. They fixed the D in this year AND made the goalies harder to beat on that shot, and I feel only 1 was necessary.

As cool as it would be to meet Mikael, I really don't want to drive there.
My apologies, I said I doubted they would, but it seems like they are. The guy I talked to said to come buy between 10-11 and pay for my copy, then come back at 12 and they'll be handing them out.
he touches on one of two problems that has caused the cross crease to ruin the game for years...
the other problem is that in an odd man rush in real hockey, taking the shot is a legitimate option. however, in EA games, players take the pass 100% of the time as there is no realistic chance at taking the shot working (unless you glitch which still doesnt solve the problem)
in the past i could be coming down the wing with brett hull and still wouldnt have a chance scoring so every single time i would pass. even in recent years when the ai got their magnetic sticks, it was still worth it to pass as at least i had a small chance at scoring. better than nothing...
so as he said, its not about super goalies. its about making the shot a realistic option on an odd man rush, and making the defenders not be zombies that just watch the puck go by.
a more minor 3rd problem is also with goalie logic. you can always pull off the cross crease even in tight on the goalie as he would never poke check or intercept or deflect the pass. he would watch the pass slide right by him so he could then try and make a desparation save. just block the pass and you solved the problem!
Just went and picked up a used copy of FIFA 12 for 18 bucks! That, combined with my NHL 12, will get me NHL 13 for free!
So awesome, thanks for the heads up guys!
where'd you get the fifa 12 for 18?
thanks!
Plus I have a massive favor to ask, could someone please scan their NHL 12 PS3 cover insert for me, I seemed to have lost mine and need it for the trade in!

The AI goalie's poke check is really solid this year, I've been burned on a deke by it a couple of times and it was totally unexpected. EASHL the first time it happened to someone playing against us everyone thought he was going to score and it was like "what the hell just happened?"
I honestly don't even try cross-creases this year so far, more because I don't trust the execution (i.e. pass will either be picked, or it'll miss, or the other guy will whiff on the shot) than because I'm worried about a save. Maybe as I get more used to the new mechanics I'll be more comfortable doing it, but right now I keep and shoot or deke.
I have no clue how to spec out my EASHL player. I'm just about to hit Pro1 and I have switched it up so many times its driving me crazy. Worst part is I spend all the time making a certain position and can never get that position in a drop in game so I play defence mostly.
What drives me nuts is the forwards that streak up the ice before we even have the puck secured in our zone.

Stand behind your net or ice it...They will get the hint soon enough.
Anyone going to the Midnight Release in South Center? I'd love to get my hands on the alternate cover.
I'm going to the Midnight Release up here in Edmonton, and would trade the Eberle case if there are any Oiler fans going to the Midnight Release in Calgary

Should be able to get the sleeve, will do my best to get it signed for you.
edit: got one of each, so whichever you don't take I'll give away to another CPer.
Backlund: Nice jersey man.
Chalms: Do you see many #60's?
Backlund: Nah, just family and friends really. *starts signing name*
Chalms: I'm from around Kelowna, big fan. Good luck this year, etc etc.
Backlund: *starts #1* Wait a sec... *changes 1 to a 6, finishes 0*
Enjoy!
