^Hope you caught the part where its noted that its $100m in a budget figure of $6B....a drop in the bucket. In other words she didn't win because she bought votes with this. People voted for her because she was considered to represent their values, deemed capable and cool under pressure.
Just because it's education or health care doesn't mean you should bet your house on it. I can't argue about the intricacies because the seat wasn't even warm for Redford yet.
However, just days after she won the premiership, she promised to give money to the teachers, police, and people with disabilities like it's water.
All I'm saying is why all the rush, work out the numbers and then do what you think it's right. For once, I actually prefer the way Stelmach ran things, not spending like a drunken sailor.
It is investing in education for christs sake, it is shown to have positive impacts for people as well as the economy over the long term. In fact I can't think of that many short term gains associated with spending money on education - in fact I would hazard a guess that 99% of the gains from education come from the LONG TERM GAINS. In fact people with disabilities, primary health care (preventative health care), education and most of what she pledged money for - actually SAVES money over the long term. I could cut and slash the budget for a lot of services but in 10 years time when you see the graduation rate in Alberta being near the bottom (ok it is the worst province right now, but we are still ahead of the Territories!). Or you could look at the statistics which measure the health of the population (once again Alberta ranks near the bottom).
I am going to assume you have no idea how Stelmach ran things if you think that he was known for his efficient spending and that you are getting your information out of the Calgary Sun... he just pledged 25 million dollars towards a week long party!
Lastly - how is education considered a special interest group!?
Hi guys, love debating politics with you. I'm not against spening on education or medicare, just how much and how it should be done is debatable.
However, I definately don't remember the press and some people like me being so negative last time when Stelmach won. What's done is done, I respect the people had spoken and I'll just take my vote to Wild Rose if an election is called tomorrow.

It's not an either/or scenario. She bought some votes with this. Others voted for her because they felt she best represented their values. Still others voted for her because of a dislike of Mar, whether it relates to his fumbling of the health care question or not.
That said, the fact that she did buy votes with such promises is a wildly amusing thing to get upset over. That is pretty much what politics is. Redford did nothing wrong. The CTF is just upset that she played the game better than her opponents did.
I long for the days when the way a political party's campaign is run, is by focusing strongly on their own values/benefits/strengths and do not include trashing all the other parties via the media.

Congratulations on being one of Canada's only 200 year olds.

I like this add. Consider me switched over to the Wildrose, if Redford doesn't come through on her promises.
Funny this add has me thinking I'll never vote for the Wildrose due to resorting to attack adds after a party election, before Redford is even sworn in. Bunch of Tea party wannabe's.

Exactly, why run this now, it aint' gonna change a thing. I can see the purpose running this during an election campaign.

As someone who is considering voting WRA in the next election, the shear stupidity they assume from the person viewing this video has me a bit alarmed.

He paid them off cause the teachers pension would have sued the province for probably close to double that and won it.
The same thing is brewing to happen with the Special Forces Pension Plan as well.
Huh? Assuming the liability for the Teachers portion of the pension was an actionable offence exactly how? Maybe they could have sued the government for their own agreed to portion, but lapping up the other half was just a 2 billion dollar payoff that Stelmach made.
Public unions are the only ones still sucking on the teat of defined benefit plans. It's really outrageous but they'd strike forever if anyone ever tried to make them join the rest of the working world.

I said: "I long for the days when the way a political party's campaign is run" not WAS run. Meaning, I have a glimmer of hope that one of these parties will do this in the future. I believe the NDP national campaign was pretty close to this back in the federal election.
