Maybe I should just get the Lector a paint job...

Can't say the white Yeti looks that good to me. Reminds me a bit of my Merida though. The frame geometry is what makes it look good. This blue one is super nice though.
Either way, price point and performance are way more important to me. Although my bike looks really nice, I would happily have gotten a plain-Jane bike if it had the same quality of components and reviews at a lower price point. I just lucked out with how mine looks.
Better to have a bike that you want to go out and thrash than a bike you want to keep on a paddle stool.
Yes, I know that it's pedestal .

Yeah, that's what's got me looking at this one now:
Not quite as pretty as I'd like, but I love what I'm reading about it in the reviews. Apparently it's just light, fun, and fast. Going to give it a go on the weekend.

That's pretty sweet. I was really impressed with some of the Giants I've seen over the last few days.

I'm really liking this right now. I've always had a thing for Specialized even though I've never had one.
http://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bik...rrus/sirruspro
But I'm also really liking the Devincis. My gut tells me to get a 2011 Amsterdam (which is already more bike than I really need), and upgrade it as required/I desire. I'm not too worried about the money pit side of things, and I like the idea of customizing it over time the way Pylon has with his.
I'm going to go ride both again tomorrow after work and see what happens.
I am the poster child for procrastination.

First rule of bike shopping, if the brand name ends in a vowel, it's expensive.

haha, no kidding. It's funny because there is only one Canadian dealer listed on their site...in Calgary.
BRAXSPORTS LTD
214-26, Th Av Ne, T2E1Y9
Calgary, Alberta
is this still a store? google isn't turning up much.
Pylon...just noticed you don't have fenders on your bike. Does that change in the winter? are fenders lame lol?

Looks nice. Giant has some seriously good looking full suspension bikes. I would love to get a bike like their Faith 0, if it didn't have an msrp of $4,400.

Oh, I have a couple Fenders. An American Special P-bass, and a Deluxe players edition Stratocaster.
Can't play either one worth a crap, but they look awesome hanging in my den, and you know....chicks.
No bike fenders. Only idiots that wanna be dry use fenders. I prefer having a giant skid mark up my back when I get out of the rain. I would rather look cool. To me they are like kickstands. The first thing I did with any bike when I was a kid is unbolt the kickstand and throw the bike on it's side in the dirt.

I've been out looking at these two Specialized bikes. I think I am leaning to the Stumpjumper over the Camber Comp, the only thing I don't like about the Stumpjumper are the SRAM shifters. Any comments?

I actually really like SRAM shifters.... haha. I'd go stumpy, extra 20mm up front, right? It'll still climb just fine.

I'm with Hulk on this one.
I quite like my SRAM shifters as well.
I've got a buddy who has a stumpjumper, and he loves it.

I've never run with SRAM before, so I am thinking I could get used to them. The more I've thought about it, the less it has become a deal killer.
I'll just have an excuse to get out there more often and get used to them, rather than tackling my chores in the yard!

Ya, extra 20mm front. I also really like the auto-sag feature on the rear

Stumpjumper unless you go camber 29er. SRAM shifters are good. I use both. Can't say one is better than the other.

as for the shift levers, sounds to me like you'll have to buy some new ones. i assume that MEC would be the cheapest local place. but if you live near a bike shop pop in and see if they have some in the junk drawer. Otherwise, I guess the net would be the cheapest - I'd try something like bike nashbar or colorado cyclist (i have never purchased from either, but i beleive they are large reputable places)

Thanks. I made a trip to Bowcycle last night and picked up a set of brake levers for $25 and it worked out well. They don't butt up against the grip shifters very well though unfortunately, but anyway such is life. I did realize what poor shape my arms are in after having to take the grips off and put them back on. What a chore. Wish they made the clamps for brake levers so you could remove them with having to take grips and shifters off. I assume its a safety thing though so a loose brake lever doesn't just fly off on you.

I have come across a 'lightly used' Scott Sportster 10 hybrid in my frame size:
link: http://www.scott-sports.com/global/e...portster-10-s/
The guy wants to sell it for $200 less than new price, I may be able to lower it slightly. Asking price is $1250.
|
Hey guys,
after almost a week of not riding still, I have reconsidered this offer and looking for advice.
The guy says the bike has very very minimal use since purchase, no scratches or wear. I will go look in person.
Very stiff about the $1250 price tag since he just bought it, didn't use much, and can't return it. 2 full years left of coverage from shop (maintenance and warranty), I am assuming pedalhead since they deal with Scott.
The frame size is my fit, the components are pretty premium, and the cost is fairly high for me but I am leaning towards testing and buying if happy. It would need to last as a commuter for a lot of years.
Any suggestions on things to consider?

Better grips actually have a little allen bolt that you loosen and they slide right off. And many brake levers have a 2 piece body so you can pull them right off. I just did this the other week as I like my brake levers inboard of my shifters.
You just have bad luck Use an air compressor or some lube for those types of grips next time.

I should have added that, either the stumpjumper or the camber would be a 29er.

I just used the SRAM ones that came with the shifters. Taking them off isn't so bad, cause they kind of roll up. If for some reason I ever have to go through this endeavour again, I will cut them off and get the type you suggested.
After all this, my bike is almost ready for its first test ride once I dial in the rear derailleur. It's amazing how virtually everything is a bottleneck in the build process.
