How are you doing your installs?
I'm on a Mac using Hatax's (from crackberry forums) playbook tools. Installation is one line in the terminal.

Pulse seems to work perfectly too. Even the Honeycomb Launcher works, if you really want it to feel like an Android tablet.

I was surprised to see the state the Android notification system integration on the Playbook is already in. I turned Evernote notifications on and they came through the QNX notifications. Tapping on the notification launched Evernote in the Android app player.

So I played with this a bunch during lunch, but none of them worked. I don't have an android device, so I had to find some .apks online to test with. Is there a version restriction?

You using DDPB to load them? Do you need them signed? Debug token loaded?

edit: Nm - Answered my own question. I neglected to sign the .bars.

DDPB is just for Windows I think, I'm just using the JAR file from Hatax on the command line.

Here's a list of tested Android apps on the Playbook. Some of these have a link to the .bar file. Most are linked to the crackberry forums, but they seem to get taken down from there pretty quickly.

If you need to command line install each one, check out localbar, it allows you to install locally on the playbook.

A bit easier probably.

Can you just figure out how to do all that and then send it over to me? I want to try it and play around with 2.0 and the apps but I haven't got the foggiest notion of how to do this!

Register and update to 2.0:
https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/...et20/register/

Then install DDPB so you can sideload apps:
http://www.berryreview.com/forums/to...staller-method

Download .bar files from this address (this is the same file as what Mick posted, but in a nicer format)
http://playbookbars.com/

Then turn on Development mode under Settings -> Security.

Use DDPB to select the .bar files and install.

If you have android apps that you have already paid for, then you can convert them from .apk to .bar, but it is a bit more complex.

I was half joking, but also kind of hoping that you could dumb it down!

I'll check it out over the weekend.

Honestly, that part is pretty straight forward.

When you get into jailbreaking to install the Android Marketplace or converting apk to bars, it gets far more complex.

Yep. Bridge works fine. Might have to reboot once it is all installed though.

I installed it and its really nice! Everything seems smoother and flows just a little better. I can't get the second link you posted to install. Do I need to plug in to a computer for that to work or something? I tried the second time and it said that the file exists, but maybe I can't find it? I don't know, but if this is the beta then the actual 2.0 seems like it will be awesome.

You install DDPB onto your computer, then download the bars to a folder, plug your playbook in, and then "Add" the bars from the folder into DDPB, and then "Install" them onto the playbook. It is important that you turn on Dev Mode, and use the IP address given (in Settings --> Security) in the field on DDPB.

I apologize for hijacking this thread with dumb questions, but do Windows & tablets have the same os as a typical Windows 7 PC or laptop, i.e. you can install things on them, unlike the IPad?

Thank you,

Kavy

Looks like I'll be going with the Nook Tablet. Better than the Kindle Fire, IMO....and I'll pay the extra $50 for double the RAM, the ability to use the SD card, and the ability to root.

You can definitely install things on an iPad.

There are a few tablets out there that run a full Windows 7 OS but they're not very popular for a lot of reasons.

Windows 8 will be a "real" tablet OS, and you'll be able to install any Windows 8 programs (apparently).
