I was driving on Beddington Trail today on the left lane, and some dude in a big truck coming up beside me on the right felt the need to drive over the snow puddles between the lanes, and spraying a crapload of snow onto my little civic and my windshield. I had to slow down because for about 2 seconds, I could not see anything out of my windshield. Had the car in front of me decided to brake, I'm pretty sure I would have just rear ended them since I wouldn't have seen it coming.

Some vehicles would stop at a traffic light and the snow they didn't bother clearing off their roof would slide right onto their windshield, piling up even higher than when they started. They'd have to get out of their car and clear it off, pissing off everyone behind them and hopefully embarassing themselves enough to not be lazy next time.

Saw that twice this morning, including once on deerfoot where the guy just kept driving despite having 95% of his windshield covered after he stepped on the brakes. You'd think people would figure out the physics involved with 6-8 inches of slippery snow on the roof of their car and at least clear it half-way back or something.

I'm going to have to call BS on 5 minutes. The closest house in Coventry Hills to the Airport is 6 km. MAYBE if you could guarantee that you got only green lights, with no traffic slowdowns of any kind, and your parents lived at the very SE corner of Coventry Hills.
Google maps says 8-9 minutes from the very edge of Coventry Hills.

My parents house is 5 houses down on Coventry Blvd, right before the traffic light on Country Hills Blvd, and on the side of the blvd leaving the community. If the light turns green just before I get off the drive way, it really does only take about 5 minutes.
Edit: to add though, when it's not rush hour, I go about 100km/h going on Country Hills Blvd, and around 100km/h on Barlow going towards the airport, so that might have something to do with it as well.

Ok, but still, you'd still likely have to get nothing but green lights to get to the terminal in 5 minutes. I'm not saying that it's going to take 10, but more likely 7-8.

When I say 5 minutes, I'm saying that's how long it takes to get to the airport. If there are backups going into the airport terminals themselves, that's extra time of course.

The Poli Theory program is very good, and has some decent old-types. I'll probably just end up reading Hegal.

Why don't you drive 150km/h on country hills and barlow and get to the airport in 3 minutes?

Because people in the far left lane are only going <insert random number below the posted limit here> km/hour.

You should drive at 88mph and arrive at work before the snow storm happened. And then maybe your mother will fall in love with you.

Because that's just dangerous, and I'm a responsible driver .
Seriously though, that stretch of Country Hills used to be 80km/h, and Barlow used to be 90km/h. It was a bit of a piss off when they reduced them both.

Like I said, from the intersection of CHB/ Coventry Blvd to the Terminal is 6 km along CHB/Barlow/Airport Road. The speed limit on that stretch is never more than 70km/h. You drive through 7 traffic lights going that route. At 60 km/h, you travel 1 km in exactly 1 minute. At 70 km/h it takes 51 seconds to drive 1 km. If we assume that half of the trip is at 70 km/h, and the other half at 60, it takes you 5.5 minutes to get to the terminal, assuming that you never have to slow down at all. Again, there are 7 traffic lights that you go through along that route. The chances of getting a green light for every one are pretty slim. 5 minutes may be the best case scenario, but it certainly wouldn't be average.
Going CHB/Deerfoot/Airport Trail/Barlow/Airport Road allows for some higher speeds, but it's also further, and you still have to go through at least 3 traffic lights. Again, 5 minutes would be the best case scenario.

As I said, that's assuming people do speed limit. If you frequently drive that stretch, you'll notice that hardly anyone goes the speed limit (except for the section just as you reach the top of the hill turning towards Deerfoot, as sometimes there's photo radar there). If you keep to the left lane, you'll do 80km-100km no problem, since most people go on the right to get onto Deerfoot Trail. Once you hit Barlow, there's no reason you can't go above 60km (except for the law ), as it's pretty much open with a few traffic lights. Those lights are usually green since the flow of traffic on Barlow is greater than people turning into those business parks.

Walking this morning was a smidge difficult. When I have to lift my feet 1 ft off the ground to make each step it becomes difficult.
Also walking down the curling rink stairs this morning was interesting.

You should invest in a good pair of snowshoes. How badass would that be?

I hear ya. I 'trail-broke' the entire way to work, and felt as if I'd worked a day's worth of work already. =/

Which forecast? Environment Canada isn't suggesting anything too crazy and neither is the weather network- although the weather network is forecasting some flurries.

I was going to come back to Alberta from Arizona this weekend, but with all the snow up there, I think I'll hold off on the trip for another week or so.
