He never proved that he actually deserved first or second line minutes when he played there and he didn't alter his game like Stajan or Tanguay did to fit an alternate role on the team so that could earn a spot.
I don't like the fact that we can't really buy out Lucic. We are stuck with him. We should have been compensated more for that fact.

We acquired a $5.4 million Ryan Reaves. That's pretty much all he's good for at this point.

Not that I don't believe you it's just that capfriendly seems to state otherwise.

Same term and age basically.

Ryan Reaves' skating is probably better than Milan Lucic's at this point. That's the sad part.

It is assuming the Oilers eat 600k of Lucic, since the deal is not finalized capfriendly has not been updated.

Lucic sucks... but is he so bad that the Flames will be bad for a decade after this deal?

Not sure what you are seeing but the NMC was originally for the life of the contract on capfriendly
It turns from a full NMC to a modified NTC AND NMC in the last 2 years.

I'm stunned. Stunned! I think this is the worst move the organization has made since the Phaneuf trade. This is a major overreaction to the playoff loss. Really disappointed in Treliving here as he followed up a terrible Brouwer contract with the terrible Neal contract only to double down and flip it for another terrible contract with longer term. Very disappointed in the GM bailing out the Oilers. Very disappointed.

1. With a 600k retention, the Oilers are effectively paying Neal 6.35 mil a year. Let that sink in for a little bit.
2. If Lucic completely waives his NMC, then the Flames don't have to protect him in the expansion draft.
3. Neal didn't fit in at all with this team. On or off the ice. On the ice, he was slow and could not keep up with the puck. Off the ice he seemed to have a unpleasant attitude right from the start about the China trip. That always bugged me because a new player should have been ready to bond with new teammates.
4. Yes, Neal can score 20 goals next season with McDavid. However, does anyone actually think Peters was going to give him much of a chance next season to play with Gaudreau on the top line? Let's be realistic, if Neal scores 20 goals with McDavid.. its not the case he was going to do that here. McDavid makes plugs score 20 goals all the time..Neal needs to score 40 goals for me to think he would have gotten 20 in Calgary.
5. There are reports apparently that Lucic has really been focused on working out and training this off-season to get better. I am not a huge fan of his but I think he will come in extremely motivated and I look forward to him protecting the Flames players...something no other player could do last season. Lucic will also be a good fit on the third line and won't have the same expectations as he did in Edmonton.
I may be wrong but I am ready to give Lucic a chance and hope he turns into a beast again given the new opportunity. Yes, the contract sucks but so did Neal's contract
Not my ideal.. but I am happier going in with Talbot and Lucic instead of Neal and Smith... both guys who shat the bed for the majority of last season are gone.
|
Ya, discussing your 5th point he said he was changing his training this summer and instead of all gym he was going to work on his skating and on ice skills this summer. Wouldn't that be great if we got beast mode Looch!

I'm looking at capfriendly and it says his salary over the next 4 years is:
Salary
$1m
$2.5m
$1
------------
$4.5m
Bonus
$3m
$2.5m
$3m
-----------
$8.5m
$4.5m
$8.5m
-----------
$13m
|
Plus the $3 million still owed in salary for this coming season.
