We'd be able to work around a location in the SW (Signal Hill area), downtown, or near U of Calgary.

Hold out for a good one really close to your house if you can...it minimizes the amount of time your kids spend strapped into a carseat in the bumper hump.

Well with the way things worked out we didn't quite get that. We went to one that we could live with right now but it's like a 10 minute drive from our house. We do have him on a waiting list for a place close to home that we like but they won't have any openings until July. Even in a tough economy it was easier for my wife to find a job than it's been to find child care. Some places have people get on the waiting list in the first tri-mester...

My wife and I got lucky with our child care. We were reffered a private dayhome by a friend who is a CPS officer. She only works by refferal and has been taking care of the children of Calgary Police and Fire Fighters for over 25 years. If you find a good dayhome it is better imo because your child will get more personal attention. But every situation is different and not all dayhomes/daycares are the same. Most daycares though will charge you $5/min for every minute your late picking up your kids past the daycares closing time

We checked out the Kids & Company on Bow Trail. It seemed a bit dodgy.

I'm with you. My wife and I have our kid in a daycare that is a 10 minute drive away. Not too bad, except that on the days when the roads go all to hell 10 minutes is suddenly 35. We're also a 1 car family, so the car parks near the dayhome and my wife and I both take transit. It can be a bit of a juggling act.

I'm now going to meet with a daycare that is within walking distance of our home. We would have gone with it initially, but friends of ours convinced us to go to where we are now based on raving reviews from other parents. While it is an awesome place, I'm looking forward to getting our kid in a place where we can walk and pick him up.

PM me if you want; if its withing walking distance I'm betting that its the same one my kids are in currently (based on the heavy competition in Own this World!)
