Pretty sure the article says otherwise.

Right in the quoted part in the OP in fact.

I've heard this mentioned in the past. Confirmation?

Good grief. Someone mentioned the effect that this would have on gas prices...apparently not realizing that gas is ALREADY priced in sub-penny increments (e.g. 94.3 cents/litre). Why do we allow idiots to have opinions?

It was confirmed earlier this year when the federal budget was announced. No date was given other than "late 2011".

Not having pennies rules. I always fill my bike up with $20.02 of premium, and hand over a $20 bill. Screw you, BP!

As was mentioned in the thread, it only affects the sum total of all the items being purchased, it's not like you round up/down on every grocery item or litre of petrol (yeah, that's right, petrol). When you pay by card, it doesn't affect anything. I don't see the downside.

Pennies are so inefficient... More than one nickel, and you get a dime. More than two dimes, and you get a quarter. More than three quarters and you get a loonie. More than one loonie, a toonie. More than two toonies, you're in billsville. But pennies... you need more than four of them for a nickel. Stupid pennies, you end up with so many of the damn things.

It's kinda ironic that the Senate is proposing abolishing the penny. How about we go 2-for-1 and get rid of both?
