It's pretty surreal, I went a few years ago with a friend from work who is an artist and wanted to get some signed stuff from some artists that did lots of Capcom stuff.
LOTS of people hawking their own as-of-yet-unknown comics, neat stuff if you are into the artwork.
Also fun to see people dress up in costumes. Gonna take my son for sure this year, he'll go crazy over the storm trooper costumes. Sometimes there are hot girls in revealing costumes as well, which is always a plus.
As for the guests, I guess I'm kind of torn... on one hand it would be cool to meet these guys, but on the other hand it feels so.. lame. Stand in line forever tog get an autograph, and then talk to them for 15 seconds saying NOTHING that they haven't ever heard before. I can understand a kid wanting to do it, but as an adult, I just can't bring myself to do it, even though when I went they had the hot chick from BSG there.

Surprisingly there are quite a few hot cosplayers in Calgary and they come out just for these events. Sadly you do get the really greasy nerds in the flash costumes as well.

I went the year Tricia Helfer and Edward James Olmos was there... The autographs and pictures are not cheap... Our picture with cap Adama was $60+ IIRC. We tried to get him to wear a flames jersey for the picture but his handler wouldn't let us cuz he was pressed for time apparently.
Seriously those guests make so much off one convention its not funny. There were at least 300 if not more people lined up for pictures with him. $20000+ in pictures alone not counting autographs and whatever the convention paid them to come out here. $60 was so so not worth it for all of 30 seconds I got to talk to the guy and take one picture.

I've gone for the past three Expos and it has grown exponentially each year.
As mentioned above, looking at the artwork, especially done by local artists, is great. The Expo releases a book each year with one picture around a central theme done by each artist, and you can go around and have them sign their work in the book.
Because we just had a baby a couple of months back, my wife and I found some unique pieces for the nursery.
The costumes are fun to check out as well, and if you're into people-watching, you'd find it fascinating. Let me say this - once you go to a Comic Expo, you'll believe that the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons is real.

Elijah Price: Do you see any Teletubbies in here? Do you see a slender plastic tag clipped to my shirt with my name printed on it? Do you see a little Asian child with a blank expression on his face sitting outside on a mechanical helicopter that shakes when you put quarters in it? No? Well, that's what you see at a toy store. And you must think you're in a toy store, because you're here shopping for an infant named Jeb.
Mr Glass is very unhappy with you.

As soon as I read your post I thought of that scene where Elijah rips into those parents.
Pretty sure the parents in the movie wanted a piece of art for a nursery too.
I should add that the final 5 or 10 minutes of Unbreakable is one of my favorite parts of any movie I've ever seen. That final speech from Elijah/Mr Glass gives me goosebumbs every time I watch it.
Elijah Price: Now that we know who you are... I know who I am. I'm not a mistake! It all makes sense. In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain's going to be? He's the exact opposite of the hero, and most time's they're friends, like you and me. I should've known way back when. You know why, David? Because of the kids. They called me Mr. Glass.

I don't know, check out this article I read on Slate yesterday. Archie has gotten pretty dark from the looks of it:

I have to say the 'Government small business relief loans' for Pop's Chocolate Shop was particularly cynical but it made me chuckle.

Yeah me too, so much darkness from what used to be such a carefree comic.
It's like they Battlestar Galactica'd Archie.

It's like they took The Offspring song "The Kids Aren't Alright" and applied it to the comic.
From what I understand though these are kind of an "alternate" reality canon (one with Archie married to Betty, and one to Veronica).

I have so much stuff right now, i don't have enough room in my house. I had to rent storage to keep them in.
So they are all locked away until March when i'm doing the Edmonton Comic show. I'll give you a list then.
