You do still need the existing b vent flue (assuming your hwt is not a high efficient one). However, without a furnace venting into the flu as well, the flu will be oversized. A chimney liner in tge existing flu is required. As for combustion air, if your hwt is less rhan 50,000 btu no combustion air is required. Hope that helps.

Question was pretty much answered already by someone else. My advice is to replace everything. If you can wait until your regular ol' water heater needs to be replaced, that may be the better way to go.

I work for Paragon. A local commercial outfit. I'm no rezzi guy, but I don't mind doing the odd residential/furnace job.

I just got a quote from Enmax and they threw in a Free Water Heater plus the option to Finance interest free through Easy Max.

The furnace cost was comparable to the other quotes we had.

Once I am back in town I will probably be looking closely at that one.
