To me it's less destructive than alcohol.
I'll tell you one thing though, it appears to be addictive based on my own personal experiences. I have a couple of friends who are huge potheads. They cannot function without it. One of them has a couple gram a day habbit (2 or 3), and you can tell when he isn't high because he goes from being the nicest guy in the world, to one aggrevated, angry individual until he gets it in him. To make it through the work day he has to smoke before he leaves in the morning, and within seconds of arriving home from work. I can just imagine how testy he is around 2-3 in the afternoon. He was recently fired from his job because of the way he interacted with the sales department, and i'd bet everything I own it's because of how agitated he gets when he isn't high.

Psychological and physiological addictions are very very different.

Irregardless, stimulants, alcohol especially, are part of life's great gift. I think partaking them aesthetically and for pleasure is one of the finest things that we can do. Personally, I like wine.

Nice, peter12 said irregardless.
That is all.

That list is absolute garbage, and I just love the way ATR gets so touchy when one negative thing gets said in his threads.
It's ok man no one is attacking you no need to be so sensitive all the time.

Alcohol is a depressant, which means it slows the function of the central nervous system. Alcohol actually blocks some of the messages trying to get to the brain.

Pot can make you sharper as well by letting you think of things in a new light.

Two drinks is good, then I start to get fuzzy. Wish I could stop at two.

I find a glass or two sets me up for some prime introspection, too.

I'm not one to pull the "bomb drop Houdini" and post something controversial and then disappear.
I back up my arguments and call people out when they try to convolute the conversation. Like your totally empty "That list is garbage" hahaha. ######ing magnets! How do they work? Scientists be lyin to us!

Everything in moderation. Pot is a gateway drug is like saying milk is a gateway drink to whiskey.
Two main reasons why a pot smoker would try a harder drug.
Their dealer also sells harder drugs or because after being told all these years how bad pot is for you and they find it's actually kind of fun, they assume that the power's that be are lying about cocaine and herion.

Obesity is a more serious health concern then smoking weed. Let's prohibit fast food.
Fact is it's not for everyone, so don't do it. I don't like the fanatical potheads who cram the benefits and falsities down your throat any more then the ignorant folks who categorize it along with cocaine, crack or meth. Alcohol can cause a number of diseases, and perhaps marijuana could too, but to allow one and not the other is ridiculous.
Smoking pot is kind of like jay walking. Yeah it's illegal, but only when convenient. Seems contradictory to me. I've been caught by police red handed and told to 'put it out', while a guy like Marc Emery gets extradited to the States.

It just seems like as soon as one person doesn't agree with your opinion or article that you post you start attacking them and telling them to "get a life" and accuse them of the very same thing you do.
And the list is absolute garbage and many different "scientists" have conflicting studies so it's not as black and white as you make it seem.
Here is a article just so my statement wasn't so empty for you.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0615095940.htm
I could find several more that say that it does cause cancer, but that doesn't prove nothing. There hasn't been enough studies to say marijuana definitely causes cancer or doesn't.

I was just posting the article, I dont see anything wrong with that. And the only person I told to get a life was REDVAN because he said "pot smokers are idiots".
If you can find all this then post it, we're having a debate and you are invited. Don't take my debating the wrong way, I'm not attacking anybody.
BTW the article I posted still has more weight IMO. While your article concludes that:
Quote:
"In conclusion, these results provide evidence for the DNA damaging potential of cannabis [marijuana] smoke, implying that the consumption of cannabis cigarettes may be detrimental to human health with the possibility to initiate cancer development," the article states. "The data obtained from this study suggesting the DNA damaging potential of cannabis smoke highlight the need for stringent regulation of the consumption of cannabis cigarettes, thus limiting the development of adverse health effects such as cancer."
|
Quote:
The heaviest smokers in the study had smoked more than 22,000 marijuana cigarettes, or joints, while moderately heavy smokers had smoked between 11,000 to 22,000 joints. Even these smokers did not have an increased risk of developing cancer. People who smoked more marijuana were not at any increased risk compared with those who smoked less marijuana or none at all.
|
One is making educated predictions, while the other is using a sample of real people who are smoking it. Neither are conclusive... but the article you posted is looser IMO.
The bottom line to me is that it's innocent until at least it sways towards guilty. It seems a lot more like a waste of govt resources to go after something that, while not harmless, is probably on par or less harmful than Alcohol.

Smoking pot, like drinking alcohol, in moderation is fine. Binging on occasion is fine in my books too as long as it's not an everyday occurrence. Don't try to tell me that either doesn't have negative health effects. That's just delusional.
The idiocy in buying pot is that you're associating yourself with drug dealers. Most of who don't only sell pot. It puts you, your family, your job, etc. at risk. That's stupid. Until it's decriminalize why would you put yourself in that position?

Never taken the stuff myself, but I've heard that it certainly can be extremely addictive (from friends) and would question the other sources alltherage has posted. However, it's the same way taking caffeine can become addictive. Your body becomes accustomed to having the chemicals in your body to such a degree that it cannot function properly without it. Studies (that I can't list off the top of my head) have shown that the first cup of coffee in the morning doesn't actually wake you up, but bring you to "normal". Following the same example, I KNOW there are minor withdrawl issues when stepping back from caffeine laden substances and wouldn't hesitate to believe the same could be found when withdrawing cannabis smoking from your daily habits.
I've NEVER heard that marijuana causes cancer argument before.
EDIT - As for taking the substances, I'm perfectly fine if you do, as long as it's in moderation and you don't let it affect your work/infringe on the rights of others. It's your life and you lead it however you want. If you lose your job BECAUSE of it...well, you knew the risks.

I recently took an involved course on marijuana...to say it is not bad for you is false. It affects you in many different ways, including messing with your sleep cycle in a negative way. The importance of a proper sleep has been studied numerous times. There are assorted other ways it impacts the human body. Any site that says otherwise is simple propaganda. Chronic users are hurting themselves in ways that are very bad.
