I highlighted the "highest paid" part, and the numbers are right. /

In the article it says the average salary is $84,000 dollars. That tells you everything you need to know.

Overtime is likely only around $10,000-$15,000 per constable on average.

I don't know how else to get through to you. You can not not look at the highest paid salary and make a conclusion that officers make about $90,000 in overtime.

Look at the averages and you'll have your numbers. $84,000 average with the base salary average being about $68,000 (rough estimate) and you're left with about $15,000 overtime per constable on average.

Yes, hundreds of cops are, but what does that have to do with your outrageous comments on overtime pay?

Mikey, in all your anti-police infinite wisdom, what would be a "fair" wage for a cop than? Or how much OT should they be allowed to make when they're taking it out of their own time that sometimes isn't even paid by taxpayers or by tickets...its paid by private companies.

We all know you hate cops, so I don't know why you come into threads like this just to spew your anti-authoritative opinions.

At the top tier it's $950 for a 12 hour shift, and $630 for an 8 hour shift. And as pointed out, it wouldn't be OT on a regular shift.

Not sure how a 6 figure salary is excessive for having to work shift work, having to deal with hazardous materials, and a likely risk of injury/death...
I don't know how you did the math. 54k a year works out to be about $27/hour (approximately 2000 working hours in a year). So a 12 hour shift would be $324, and an 8 hour shift would be $216.

Fair enough. But out of curiosity, what specifically does the Calgary police force do that makes it easy for people to be anti-police?

Well they did get paid a lot of overtime when they were called in to wire the World Trade Center with super duper experimental explosives.

I dont "hate" cops. That is a pretty harsh word to use.

I stand by my opinion. It is what has become of the profession that I don't care for. Over the years it has become more and more about fundraising and revenue collection.

On top of that, with all the cell phone cameras out there nowadays it appears that police departments are attracting more and more meatheads (no, not all of them) who like to pick on people with their tasers...and when things go badly they maybe get suspended with pay for a couple days as punishment.

Do you have any concept of how difficult it is to become a police officer? Man, I wish cell phone cameras could do their job. Life would be so much easier.

Meatheads eh? (No, not all of them )

Clown shoes.

Thanked for the very underrated "clown shoes" reference.

Yes, it's difficult and a very long process. The CPS is saying anywhere from 8-14 months if you are successful at all the steps and the RCMP anywhere from 10-14 months depending on your division.

I'm at the Polygraph stage with the RCMP and I'm 4 months into the process.

RCMP actually had a quicker recruiting time as of late, but that has more to do with Calgary's budget crunch. We had a class hired and put on hold for CPS for about a year......most of them had to be re-examined before they finally started training.

My RCMP process only took about 4 months, it was the start date at Depot that was up in the air though.
