What the hell??? I get that speeding is a great way to get places faster but don't make people's lives miserable if they aren't accommodating in your selfish driving needs.

My bad. There was a rather large bug on the back of your car, I was trying to either chase it off or crush it but you kept proceeding forward, which inhibited my ability to successfully achieve my goal.

Then you (obviously) need to realign your thinking. Don't blame the government. Their laws are perfect and meant to protect you.

My suggestion is to garner the necessary legally verifiable signatures to form the "Drive As I Damn Well Please Party" which I believe would fall under provincial jurisdiction.
But it's probably easier just to swallow your pride at being subjected to follow obviously draconian anti-democratic iron-fist commie pinko laws like driving at a reasonable speed in accordance with others who share the road.

Well then, it's settled. That you for your input Reg. Everything is once again sunny in Alberta. Provincial jurisdiction and all.

I can understand wanting to drive at the maximum allowable speed, or beyond that in many cases. What I do not understand is getting mad when someone else isn't doing the same, regardless of the lane they are in.
Driving isn't a contest, you generally don't get a prize for getting home or to work a minute earlier. Relax and enjoy the ride. I would imagine that a relaxed driver who is focusing on the entire road is probably a safe driver over all than the one who is raging because that idiot in the Prius in the left lane on Deerfoot is only doing 100.
My wife used to be very bad with this, until the day my daughter started repeating the show of anger from her car seat. "Get out of the freaking way" coming from a 2 year old is a pretty eye opening experience, I guess.

Fair enough and if it's not busy and I'm going slower I'll usually get out of the way. Since it is not a rule within the city, if it's busy and I'm going the limit (I'm typically about 5 - 8 km over the limit) I certainly don't feel bad not getting out of the way.
People drive like idiots and unfortunately, those who feel they are entitled to drive faster than everyone else put me in danger so they can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. I don't care how good of a driver they think they are, the faster you go the more likely you are to be involved in or cause an accident.
If I'm behind someone going the limit I have no problem, if they are going 10 under it annoys me, but I'll just wait for my chance to pass by.. No big deal.

I love pissing people off when i drive in the summer, If someone is tailgating me and they are just being an ill slow down so much just to piss them off more. I wont ever do it if someone can get by or if they are just telling me i should pull off or something, just the s who think they own the road.
The nice thing about having a car with better acceleration and braking (i drive a supercharged mustang cobra) is that no body can catch up to me if i want to dust them, and i can also brake faster if they decide to be a prick.
Me and my buddies in highschool used to box people in and drive the EXACT speed limit, so much fun.

You're a better man than I. The amount of times I've thought this to myself... only to be followed by some guy going like 5 under in front of me. Then it's out the window. Not like I rage or anything, but it annoys me.
I find I'm usually doing about the speed limit or a little over, if there's nobody in front of me. For some reason though, I hate going slightly slower than I could be going when it's dictated by someone else. Makes no sense in some ways, but an open road is bliss.

Disagree. It's wrong to deliberately antagonize a fellow driver. We must all share the road. This is not a la-di-da sentiment. Every driver has a potentially lethal weapon under their control. Don't exacerbate the situation.
The road requires every bit the need for courtesy as any other social situation (and it is a social situation despite that steel and glass pod enclosures make you impervious and omnipotent).
They hurtle at lethal speed. Anger and revenge lead to nothing but carnage.

Mr. TylerSVT, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Except all the vehicles that need the right lane to get onto or trying to merge into the right lane. They're all rageing.
Traffic flows better if thru traffic stays out of the right lane.

Argh, dude driving 80 in the right lane on northbound Deerfoot this morning, just before the traffic is merging on from 16th avenue and I have to get into that same lane to exit on 32nd ave.
THANKS FOR MESSING EVERYONE UP GUY.
Has anyone ever witnessed someone getting a ticket for driving too slow?

I hate to pull the "you should drive in Europe" card, but there is an increased level of awareness on highways there.
The left lane is for passing - period. If you're passing at 110 or 140, that's your lane. If you're cruising at the same speeds but not passing, you're in the right lane. Over there it isn't about anyone's right to play pace car in the left lane, it is because they have figured out that catching speeders is the job of the police and that the road is more efficient and safer when the left lane is used for passing. The right lane is for cruising, merging, and exiting.
Also - it should be noted that the OP was driving in the right lane and was even going slightly over the speedlimit. The guy behind him is a nozzle, plain and simple. To me this isn't a debate about left lane vs. right lane (even though my previous paragraph enters that debate), it is about an aggressive driver who has no respect for construction zones, other drivers, etc. There are a couple of places that my tolerance for douchbaggeryness is at zero: construction zones, and playground/school zones.

A little off topic, but related...
I can't stand when I'm coming into a construction zone (say the speed is dropping from 80 to 50) and I slow down to 55-ish, and someone comes up behind me doing 70, whips into the left lane and past me, and in front of me, then when we come out of the construction zone they continue at 70.

Actually, the left lane is for the faster drivers, be it speeders or non speeders.

There is a reason you have break lights, use them and tap the break a few times to give the a$$ behind you a real scare - trust me it works.
