I find my neighbourhood (below) very walkable . . . . but we do need two vehicles (4 wheel drive helps in winter) to get to town/work.

67. The nearest park is way way WAYYYY off. Says the closest is 3.1km when it missed a couple 0.31km away.

Ah, I see. Well, either or, I still like to drive to wherever I'm going. Heck, I have cousins who live about 3 blocks away and I still drive over rather than walk over. I'm not afraid to admit I'm super lazy.

Cool site but the data really needs to be updated. Cranston for example has had alot of new work done in the past 6months-1year, none of which shows up on this site (grocery store, restaraunts, pub, park access, coffee, post office, etc etc).
Will be interesting to look at the difference in score once/if this is updated though.

83 in Beltline. It is a very walkable community. I think this number is actually a little low.
Looking at some of the details, the choices seem odd. The "hospitals" are not exactly what I would consider hospitals. They miss the Safeway on 8th St. I understand it is a simple mathematical formula on existence of a specified category. However, the fact that there is a Coop & a Safeway really close by is much more important than all the dinky little stores in the area. The small stores have value. I shop at Kalamata, Community foods, Rustic Sourdough and Janice Beaton, but those are not great for most staples.
The entertainment category is odd. I probably get low scores for few movie theatres in Beltline itself. Casablanca is the closest rental place on the list, but I definitely would not walk there given how many are much closer. The Saddledome is not on the list. It is the entertainment venue I walk to most often, but I do also drive there to save 15 minutes on the way home (which means I get 15 minutes more sleep).
I think the score is telling, but not like you can use it as an exact measure. 83 would clearly be better than a location with 10. However, it might be better than a place scored 87 or worse than a place scored 72.

These are all great points.
The closest hospital to my house is the South Pointe Pet Hospital, and unless I am looking to get neutered it wont do me much good. And really, is it necessary to be able to walk to a hospital? I think the site would be better off if it looked at 'medical clinics' rather than hospitals.

82 where I'm selling condos in the Beltline
82 In Kitsilano, Vancouver where I live
28 where I'm staying while in Calgary (Springbank Hill)
Seems accurate to me, though I thought my place in Van would score a bit higher

I'm constantly amazed at the shocked looks I receive whenever I tell many Calgarians that I don't own a car. It's completely unfathomable to them that I could get around without a vehicle. What do I need a car for, though, when I have the following within a short walking distance of my inner-city home?
- workplace
- grocery store
- liquor store
- 24 hour convenience store
- pharmacy
- post office
- shopping (downtown mall)
- dozens of pubs, restaurants, and coffeeshops
That covers about 98% of my trips. For the other 2%, I can get about either by C-Train or taxi -- MUCH cheaper than owning a car.

Clearly you don't play hockey, the #1 use of my car. If it wasn't for sports I'd probably use it about twice a week.

Not anymore, but I was in a ball hockey league a few years ago. I walked to and from there too.

52 - "Somewhat walkable"
I guess their definition of walkable is different than mine, I walk to a lot more things than it suggests. Not bad for being in a relatively new (20 year) suburb though.

I'm actually in the boonies of NY too....Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The nearest train station is a relatively long 5 minutes away. Manhattan would score like 240.

I'm going to set the record low score here, thus making me the most backward redneck on CP . . . . . . .Drumroll please . . . a full 2 points! This is for a new house in Evanston.
A big reason for this is that the commercial center for Evanston that is getting built less than 500m from my house and will have restaurants, pubs, grocery stores, coffee shops, et al. The ratings reflects where I have to go now.

100 here, in Manhattan. I would hope so.
Oddly enough I own a membership to a car share service that I use to make trips to pick up bigger things (Ikea trips mostly), so realistically I'm probably a 99.
