While I understand the need to respond when someone posts a bad/short bus like post (when one really didn't think about what to say when one smashes the key board). I find it is always best to comment about the post and not the individual. Sometimes they may not understand the difference and think they are getting picked on, but at least you know your not being "that kind of D'Bag/Canuck or Oiler like fan".
Comment on the post and not the person. That post is anti-classy and I know you are better than that.
Of course unless the smile was a "we are already buddies" icon and I'm just red in the face...
