Basically a tenant signed up for some kind of security system and the company is trying to say he's responsible even though he didn't sign up for it.
Don't forget the teensy weensy fact that no alarm system was actually installed

I'm not really sure why this was removed, if the story is true, there is no legal issue.
Beyond.ca has crap like this get posted all the time, and if they confirm it's true, they leave it and laugh at the legal threats and nothing ever goes anywhere. Is it just a case of not as much risk tollerance because not much $ if things somehow went unexpectedly?
I'm going to sue CP for taking the story down. Vlad, you interested in this pro-boner case?
Yeah, because I can never have enough clients I hate... now, if you throw your mom into the bargain, that might tip the scales, if what I hear is true...

I would like to have an explaination too of why this is wrong to post and what the actual legal issues are because I'm not sure. Should nobody ever post if they get bad services somewhere or didn't like something. Like Hulkrogan said, if it is true, what is the issue? (That being said, I know the legal system is crap and too expensive to fight anything even if you are right).

How do we determine if the story is true though?
If someone wants to pay me $75 an hour I'll gladly talk to the poster and contact the security company and do all the fact finding to ensure what's posted represents the truth.
But even then, in theory if it's true there's no legal issue, but in practice to determine there is no legal issue is still a legal issue. Defending against a suit takes time, money, effort, etc. Not everyone wants to be on the front line defending against legal bullies who toss around lawsuits to remove negative press rather than simply having good customer service.
Trust me, I get that. There's a decent sized list of companies that I won't give business to because of their communications with CP. If I owned this site, I would probably do exactly as you say, laugh in their face when they send the C&D letter. But I don't own the site.
And that's only half the reason.. the other half is the part I detailed earlier about a person who isn't already part of the community coming in and trying to use something built by someone else for their own advantage. If they'd asked first before posting, it'd probably still be up. If it was an existing poster, it'd probably be up until they asked us to take it down or it got out of hand. If they'd asked for legal advice rather than advocating causing the company material harm through the same kind of bullying they're complaining about it might still be up. If they hadn't treated CP as their personal army to bully the company it might still be up. But all of that together pushed me enough to take it down.
If someone puts a sign up on my lawn without asking and without considering what impact it might have on me, then I'll take it down.

It's not that nobody should ever post if they have bad service anywhere, but the question is should they post here. Truth is the ultimate defense for defamation, but that doesn't stop someone from using frivolous lawsuits to bully someone. So it becomes a question of does one want to spend the time and effort and hassle of trying to push back against them, or do you decide that that's not what you are trying to accomplish with your site?

Sorry, what was this thread about? I was distracted by the turtles.....what do you mean theres no turtles?

If a company wrongs you, and you want to make your story known, there are a few ways which you can go about this. You can:
- contact your local news station and see if they will run it on Consumer Watch or something similar.
- write about on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog.
- post a report on RipoffReports.ca
- Use Yelp! to post a review.
- Post it on Beyond.ca
Taken all together, this will probably make things start to show up on Google when people type the company name. I am not an expert SEO guy, but I know a little about it.
As for posting on CalgaryPuck, I agree with what photon said about going through the proper channels or wording your complaint properly. If this thread had been about how one guy got ripped off by x company and what to do about it, it would probably have stayed open. But instead it sounds like he's using the message board to "get back" at the company.
