People who have horrible jobs to do (doctors, morgue workers, slaughterhouse employees, proctologists, etc.) adapt to the unpleasant work they have to do. If they can't do this - by dissociating themselves from the task at hand, using humour, or simply becoming numb or callous - they will lose their heads.
I'm working with the theory this girl lives on a farm, deals with unpleasant things relating to animals all the time, and was given the task of disposing of these unwanted pups. She could have done this in a number of different ways, but chose a method that is less messy than most alternatives, and that does not result in her having to deal with the bodies. She's dissociating herself from the reality of what she's doing. Her apparent enjoyment of the process is simply a method of coping.

It's the same reasoning people use to excuse soldiers who are on video giggling when they shoot people. There was one posted a while ago with snipers killing a defenseless wounded target and laughing about it... which personally, I find more disturbing. I also recall people making jokes about that infant that was mauled by a husky while strapped in a child seat... yet anything to do with hurting animals gets people up in arms. I just don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I would never throw a puppy into a river and would feel bad doing it. I even feel bad when I gut a fish.
When I was really small, I was at a farm visiting family friends (I honestly don't know who they are - I was too young). I was playing with some barn kittens with the girl that lived there. One of them had an injured or deformed paw. We took it to her dad who was working out in the field and he put the kitten on the ground, placed a shovel on the neck and stomped on the back of the shovel. I was horrified but they were very indifferent about it.

That, while having a higher shock value, was probably a more humane way of dealing with it. Quicker, straight to the point, only destroyed the deformed one that probably wouldn't make it, less cruel and sadistic, he probably got absolutely no joy or laughs out of it and didn't bring along a friend to video tape it for the lulz....

While I'm sure all of you that are appalled by this are 100 percent vegetarians, practising Jainists, and pro life- one cant be expected to take care six or seven puppies, so whats wrong with tossing them into a river?

Why do we care about unwanted puppies drowning, when millions of young children die every year from a lack of clean drinking water ? What does that say about us as a society ?

As for the video, there's a generational gap here: kids today videotape the hell out of everything. They're digikids. It's not the olden days where one guy on the block owned a video camera the size of a VW Rabbit, and it was a big effort to tape anything. Now, anyone can do it, often with no pre-planning whatsoever. So the fact of it being videotaped may have nothing to do with premeditation, enjoyment of the experience, or glorification of the activity.
Or, alternatively, she could be a sicko.

Somehow I don't think colorectal surgeons film their 'work' in an attempt to shock their audience.
As for a generational gap, if this is truly what people on farms do to get be rid of unwanted animals, I can't imagine any farm kid would be taught to use it to shock the urban crowd.

No, they can't. But they can try and find ways to find homes for those unwanted puppies instead of using them as furry water balloons like it sounds this sick little bitch did.

This might be the funniest post I have read here in a long time.
I am not really an animal person by any stretch of the imagination but there is something messed up about someone doing this. I can understand killing puppies because it is part of life (such as living on a farm) and the other aspect is we may be viewing this with a western bias in which dogs are our best friend and all, where as in many eastern european countries it would be more practical to throw them in the river as there are no other options like an SPCA.
At the end of the video it doesn't sound like she is speaking English but rather it sounds like she has an Eastern European accent.... but I could be wrong.

For me it's not so much that they are drowning unwanted puppies, it's the way the girl is doing it. Generally you try to do things as humanely as possible, farm or not (or at least that's the way I was taught to do things on the farm). The way the girl is doing this is equivalent to getting all the starving, thirsty kids in a village together, forcing them in a line, and then individually laughing at each of them as you eat your fancy meal while wasting as much fresh water as possible and telling them that they're all going to die after living miserable lives. At least that's the way I see it.
It's one thing to have to drown unwanted puppies, or puppies you can't possibly take care of. It's another to individually throw them and laugh about it. One is a sad fact of life, the other makes me wonder how many people these people will kill and bury in their backyard.

So because there's young children dieing from lack of clean drinking water around the world we shouldn't care when crap like this happens to animals? Just because you don't see threads everyday on here talking about those children doesn't mean we don't feel any less sympathy for them.

My ability to care is finite. I have to choose between puppies or human children. It's a tough decision, but I'll have to go with . . . neither.
