You're right, bad things happen in the world, in Canada, or in the middle east. At least the young girl wasn't stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage.
I am not sure if the story is really comparable to the current discussion? I could look through the Herald on any given day and pick out a handful of stories that happen in Canada that are terrible. I can honestly say though that I rarely hear about archaeic torture or situations in which the punishment of a "crime" (I say it in brackets because some things that are considered crimes in certain parts of the world are an everyday occurence in our country i.e. pre-marital sex.) results in a medieval stoning, or torture equivalent. And IF something like that happened in Canada, I can gaurantee that the people who commit the crime are going to be punished, instead of nothing being done.
