There will be no handicapping. Players are not going to be punished for being good, that's ridiculous; and besides that I think handicapping just opens up opportunities for people of decent skill to say "I am not that good." to get the advantage.

You should consider letting the loser pick the next map from the pool. That way the loser gets to pick a map that they're comfortable on and we have more of the bo3s get to 3 so that it's more interesting and fun for all involved.
Adds another level of strategy as well as some builds are more applicable on certain maps. =)

I'd let the loser of the first game pick the second map, but the first and third will be chosen at random just to make sure home field advantage isn't at play for winning.

To hell with handicaps. If anyone takes it easy on me or sets up a handicap, I will be seriously pissed. I want to know how big the gap is so I have something to work towards.

I think that's a bad idea. What if, the first player is slightly better than the second, and wins the first game. The worse player will have a slight advantage to get to 1-1. I'd say we random all 3 maps from the 2v2 map pool.

This is pretty standard for RTS tourneys. I believe it's what team liquid does.

Exactly. Makes things more interesting. And if it does get to 1-1 the better player has the opportunity to play on their map of choice for game 3.
So you do something like Metalopolis (a map that is widely considered the most balanced) for the first map, loser picks second, loser picks third (if necessary). That's how most of the big tournaments operate.

I can't even beat the AI on easy . . . for this disgrace I must end my life. On second thought I might read up some more on basics and strats. Where is a good place to look for this information? I'm playing Terran.

You're losing as... Terran? Is that even possible right now?
Yeeeeeah.... for that disgrace you probably should become an hero. D=. Allternatively there are a few good threads on the battle.net forums for basic terran strategies.

Terran needs some nerfing. They're too overpowered right now. On 1v1 2 out of 3 players are playing Terran.

I agree. Personally I think Zerg are handicapped a bit too much. I wish they'd give back the hydra speed upgrade.

That doesn't mean they're overpowered. I think things are pretty even right now.
Terran gameplay is most similar to that of other RTS games. It's also what everybody has experience with from the campaign.
A lot of zerg players are unwilling to experiment right now because they think they need to fast expand, get two queens and xyz. Terran players are exploiting it because we know you're getting zerglings then mutalisks then hydra. It's not a tough shell to crack.
And toss players who are exploring their full capabilities (dark/high templar, void ray harrass, warp prisms, etc) are doing quite well.
Terran aren't imbalanced. You have to explore all your options before calling for the nerf stick.

I think Death Knights need a nerf...and druids are op..wrong thread?
Don't get blizzard started on the nerf/buff carousel, they suck horribly at it.

I like making those baby planes when I'm Protoss!
Anyways, good luck with the tournament. It sounds like a neat idea and hopefully we can get these types of things started with other games.

When Halo: Reach comes out I will set one up, I will need to get my FPS to get my ego back to where it should be after the drubbing it will take in this SC tourny.

Terran gameplay from campaign is a lot different than Starcraft 2 multiplayer match. At least it is for me since there were a lot of Starcraft 1 units that suited the campaign gameplay.
I usually play toss but right now Terran can easily finish the game with marines and marauders with stim and grenade early game. Obviously that's before I can even get a colossus out or get chargelots. Any race is great if you exploit the full capability of that race but that takes time, especially for toss and the problem is Terran can easily destroy you with their infantry only.
Anyway, apparently there are words on blizz forum that they're going to nerf terran next patch. Well that's what I heard from a friend who actually goes on the blizz forum, I don't usually read their forum.
I bet that there are going to be less terran players if they get nerfed next patch. Kind of like the time when they nerfed roaches to 2 food and all of sudden you don't see as many Zerg players since they can't mass roaches anymore.

Try hiding a starport in the back of your base or a funny corner. Chrono Boost a Void Ray and send it to the Terran base as soon as possible. Charge up on the Refinery and go to town on his SCV's. If marines come in and you're charged it will be a slaughter.
Alternatively you could send a Dark Templar. If the Terran is being a good little boy and mule'ing he won't have energy for scans. Send them in one at a time to destroy the mineral line. Ravens are incredibly expensive and high up the tech tree as well as taking a long time to produce. Turrets require some foresight and an engineering bay.
If you need a little more time to get that void ray, stall the infantry with a few sentries and spam force fields in front of your base until you can build enough defenses.
The races are fairly well balanced. Even if Terran is slightly overpowered, that's not why you're losing (sorry). Watch some replays and look into what you could have done differently to survive.
Personally, I hope they nerf tanks and leave everything else untouched.
