Lol seriously? I don't care what Wikipedia says. They are not in the Middle East and are not Middle Eastern.

In some contexts, the term has recently been expanded in usage to sometimes include Afghanistan and Pakistan

Term has been expanded by people like MJM who can't read a map.

So some geographically-challenged North Americans mistakenly refer to it as the Middle-East, then?

Pakistanis and Indians certainly don't identify as middle-eastern. South-Asian seem to be the go to words when describing people from the subcontinent.

Lol, you couldn't back up your argument so you decided to make a childish insult. I'm proud to be a post whore. I'd rather make a lot of posts than be scared of what people think of me on the internet and not post what I truly feel. I wear my heart on my keyboard.

Why does the government feel it needs to use tax payers dollars for this?

If individuals want to donate their own .17$ good for them.

Geez Puckluck...I used your own words (post whore) in a harmless joke. I provided a widely read source to support what many believe. Pakistan is definitely tied in with the politics and reality of the region. This isn't a f..ing university term paper. Its a message board. I can use Wikipedia as a source. By the way, where in MJM's post did he say that Pakistan was in the Middle East?

LOL you make it seem as if the term 'Middle East' has some scientific value. It is hardly the name of a region. And I am being serious, it barely means anything at all, except to indicate a vague portion of the earth.

Wiki versus World Atlas seem to say near opposite things. Get over it.

You seriously are asking me where he said that Pakistan was in the Middle East in a thread about Pakistan?

I don't have a problem with you using Wiki as a source, but no where in your source did it say it was in the Middle East.

No scientific value, but definitely some regional value, and Pakistan is not part of the Middle East.

Anyways I've made my point so I'm done with this thread. Really sucks that people are looking at the region instead of the innocent people that need the humanitarian help.

I understand why donations are low.

After the Haiti thing, and giving money to various other charities, I've already exceeded my donation budget for a year. You also have people scared about the economy. Pakistan in the newspaper with ties to the Taliban who are linked to killing our soldiers. The whole sumertime period when people don't give a crap time, and you get why donations are low.

I also think if people see that the Pakistani community has only raised a tiny amount they're going to feel like if they can't raise a bunch of money why should I care.

I think we'd better get used to this, the world and especially the first world nations are going to become a lot more callous and a lot less generous in bailing out nations everytime a natural disaster hits, they just can't afford it.

Pakistan could do us a favor and plug up their damn border with Afghanistan. How can our troops get any foothold when there are insurgent hiding out along the Pakistan/Afghan Western Border?

Oh, and $100 says Bin Laden is hiding out in Pakistan. (Not saying their government is willingly hiding him, though.)

Very unfortunate. Lots of suffering.

You don't hear a Mullah proclaiming God's wrath for Pakistan's wickedness though. Funny how that works.

The right thing to do is to provide aid even if it isn't offically appreciated.

The connection Pakistan has with Afghanistan automatically makes it a Middle-East problem.

Geez.

You are wrong. I say Pakistan is in the middle east, and that makes it correct. Get over it. Ask your parents to buy you an atlas, the book is filled with so called legal land boundaries. There are no specific universal boundaries for the middle east. Some say Pakistan is in the area, some don't.

Look up the word 'Orient' and you will see shifting definitions and a body of literature about the history of the word. I say Pakistan due to it's connection with Muslims and position on the planet is part of the Middle East.

I think I missed your point. Are you abandoning another thread?

Some are looking at the cash and simply saying no to a donation. Not sure what innocence has to do with donations, yet that does make for an interesting conversation.

Nage, at least call a spade a spade. You equal middle eastern to brown people. Simple as that. In all seriousness, theres nothing racist about it, its just an incorrect assumption.
