Most half tons run out of payload before towing capacity. I would check the sticker inside your door to find out your GVWR.

I have a half ton Ram and we are looking at finding a trailer with a dry weight between 5000-6000 pounds, and expecting to load no more then 1500 pounds into the trailer.

Things to make your towing life easier:

- Weight Distribution Hitch
- Trailer Brake Controller

I just skimmed through this thread so my apologies if my questions have been answered. You want to buy a brand new trailer, and borrow a friends truck to pull it? Im not sure if thats such a good idea. What would happen if you wrecked his truck? Also if youve never had a trailer before, why not buy used to see if it works for you?

We bought a new trailer from High River Autoplex as well. I found a floor plan that we liked and an ad for one at a dealer in the US. I took that ad in and asked what they could do for us. They damn near matched the price and made it worth our while to buy from them. It would have cost about $3000 to ship it to my door (or $2500 to Montana). So if you insist on buying new, find in the US and take the ad to a dealer and see what they can do. There is so much mark up on new trailers its ridiculous.
