There is nothing here but a mini-Rona in Westhills (Garbage).
Closest real option is the Home Depot at Stoney/Nose Hill

What do you mean "west side"? If you're truly west, go to Home Depot on Macleod/Glenmore. If you mean northwest then boooo to you.

West = The entire area west of downtown, but North of Glenmore Tr. and/or the reservoir.
Home Depot at Glenmore/McLoad is not close. Its a 20+ minute drive excluding the ridiculous traffic due to the 37th/Glenmore interchange.
The NW/NE/SW/SE burbs are filled with hardware stores, but somehow the west has been neglected. You'd think with all the developments on this side of town there would be a hardware store.....but no dice.

I am betting fall. Half the outer walls are already up, and the interior won't take long at all because it will be basically an open warehouse. My company has built and opened similar sized stores inside of six months.

Went by on the bus yesterday and there was a line of trucks lined up to get into receiving.
Can't wait. I am starting developing my basement in the new year and it will be nice to have the competition.
Is the lumber stored inside or out, Suzles? No way I am going back to HD for lumber. Every piece of wood I have bought from them seems to be better suited as a propellor.

I can't wait either...it is about 5 minutes from my house and I despise HD. From the brutal organization to the complete lack of service/knowledge.
I am probably setting myself up for disappointment but it can't be worse than HD...can it?

Lumber is inside.
And I can assure you that they chose the staff for their 'people friendly attitude' as much as for their knowledge. We are having two team building meetings each day and we high five and woo-hoo each other non stop. I will be in the garden centre when we open.

I may be mis-remembering, but hasn't Lowe's already entered and left the Canadian market? Like in the last 10-15 years? I seem to recall one in the Northgate-ish area, by the Olive Garden off of Memorial and wherever that is in the NE.

that was never a Lowes that I recall, it started as Aikenhead Canada, which could have been a division of some US company, but I never knew which.

We did a case study on Aikenheads in university once... if my memory serves me correctly, Home Depot bought Aikenheads as part of its entry strategy into the Canadian market.
Edit: I did actually remember correctly. That's a first.
