I did. I would also recommend Monsters Ball.

Way of the Gun, my absolute favorite movie ever.
Critics and even the director (in the commentary) didn't like how it turned out.
Others:
-Dude, Where's my car?
-Sudden Death
-13th Warrior (I remember mixed reviews... I thought this movie was amazing)
-Troy
|
Troy is awful...
at least for a history major to watch. The story is so botched up and hollywoodized...same with Braveheart.
I used to like Braveheart...then I realized it's many and glaring shortcomings.

Definitely Freddy Got Fingered.
I am a huge Tom Green fan, so that accounts for most of my reasoning, but the critics just missed what he was going for, IMO. He wasn't trying to make a traditional comedy, or even one that made any kind of sense. He set out to make something original, disgusting, offensive, disarming, and hilarious, and in that sense he succeeded. He said one of his main influences was Monty Python's "The Meaning Of Life," and the films are actually somewhat similar- jarring, graphic, unorthodox. The New York Times actully gave it a very favorable review, comparing him to other misunderstood comics like Andy Kaufman, and it has grossed over 30 million on DVD sales alone, so it can't be as bad as they said it was.
He was the media's whipping boy for a while, especially after his marriage to DB ended. That was amazingly unfair to him, considering he became a household name in the US in less than 6 months, helped to pioneer "reality" TV, paved the way for "Jackass," "Fear Factor," "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment," and other similar shows, had just suffered through cancer and the subsequent shelving of his show, and the fact that Drew is the media's princess, and Tom couldn't be further from that.
Anyways, it's one of my favorite comedies. Just so off the wall and ridiculous I can't help but laugh every time. Rant over.
Some others:
Eyes Wide Shut (A modern classic, for sure)
The Life Aquatic (I love this movie)
American Psycho
Austin Powers in Goldmember
Deep Blue Sea (The part where Sam Jackson gets eaten is sooooo sweet)

Braveheart is possibly one of the most overrated movies ever.
Mel Gibson and his Jesus complex thoroughly ruined that already awful movie.

Boondock Saints.
The critics tore that one to shreds. One of my all-time favourite movies, without question. A cult classic.

Comments on a couple movies that have already been noted....
Boondock Saints... yes, panned by critics, but I really enjoyed it.
The Hulk... Holds my current record for falling asleep while watching... 4 times. Was really looking forward to it. Disappointed.
Godzilla... enjoyed it... perhaps because it was one of the best sounding movies in my collection, and I watch it with a 4000 watt sound system (including a 2700 watt Carver Sunfire sub). Godzilla steps.... my house changes postal code!! BOOM!!! Couldn't find the cats for days.... nice side effect...

I wasa huge fan of both The Village and Starship Troopers. That movie was so cheesy, but it was supposed to be that way and I loved it.

Why is it overrated? What is bad about it?

You can begin with it's ludicrous historical fallacies. I understand that for some people this doesn't make a movie bad.
You can then point to Mel Gibson's awful directing and script. Which makes the English out to be evil for the sake of evil without ever explaining why they were doing what they were doing. Making the prince character evil because he was gay. Being incredibly sexist. Putting in this idiotic token love scene (no doubt to further boost Mel's already gigantic ego). Which all culminates in the 'crucifixtion' scene where he sacrificies himself.
All in all, it was just too cliched and absurd to be taken seriously.

Sure, Hakan, but what about the battle scenes! THE BATTLE SCENES!!
I loved this movie right up until the last time I saw it, however I was only about 15 then. So, at that time, I was in it for the battle scenes and din't much care for substance.
That said, next time I watch Braveheart, I'll keep my eyes open for all of this stuff. It would appear you are making good points.
Except for the English. They are inherently evil. Gays too.

How was the movie sexist? Frankly sexism was a part of those times anyway.
Idiotic token love scene? I didn't think there was anything like that...
Yea the brits were made to look pretty bad, but the movie was from the perspective of the scots...of course the scots saw them that way. A movie doesn't always have to be objective, it'd take a lot of emotion out of it, not a good thing. Those are called documentaries.
