Peanut is right. I had tons of people telling me to quit smoking years back. I was only successful when I was the one who really wanted it.

Do it for you.

Read the book "Devil in the Shadows". It's written by a friend of a friend about his battle with alcoholism and how he won. http://www.lulu.com/product/paperbac...hadows/5574405

Well addiction aside, your liver isn't going to like you much when you get older.

My question for you isn't based around the addiction part, but around being a healthy person.

Do you exercise? Eat right? I know some recovering alcoholics that say that learning how to live as a healthy individual really helped them with their addiction.

I know for me I love beer. But because of the empty carbs and the bloated, sick feelings that comes after a 6-pack, I stay away from alcohol as much as possible except when I'm in social situations.

Its also important your family knows about your problem and can help you. Nothing worse than a family gathering where everyone is drinking beer and nobody realizes that you probably shouldn't be in such a situation because of self control issues.

wow... brutally honest thread. Much respect.

going out, binging and getting wrecked is sorta part of the early/mid 20s routine for most of us. it's not the smartest thing, and i'm sure all of us in that stage have done plenty of 'ish we aren't all that proud of, but you grow up and hopefully out of htat stage.

Once you're married or just older and have people now DEPENDING on you for support (in every realm of the word), but ur still getting ridiculously drunk (ie. uncontrollably) then i think it's time to sit down and determine what needs to change in your lifestyle such that you don't have such urges.

To the OP, u said this is the case for only 2 days in a year, that makes it apparent that it's not like you need to get trashed all the time, but just need to have a proper strategy laid out for those "big nites" where you know it's likely going to be a heavy drinking night. whether you set a hard cap on the # of drinks for the night, or decide to be the DD and let the wife drive, something that you can use as a rule book for the night to ensure you don't let yourself get to that point of no return...

good luck.

Sponser. Meetings. I'm in central AB so I can't recommend much outside of Red Deer.

At first, you will probably resent the group. You might even be put off by the people with extreme cases and how open they are about it. Soon you'll find people you can relate to and trust. People who are dealing with the same things. I'm pleasantly surprised by the support already on this board willing to share and help. Just awesome.

I guess I just can't stress how important it is to have someone you can talk about this with. When you tell them about a temptation or low point they know exactly where you're coming from. They have been there. They don't just say 'huh..' or look at you like they would rather be anywhere else talking about anything else. Perhaps you already have that in your current support structure. There seem to be plenty of us who feel we have overindulged in life's little treats.

Check from about 3:11 to 5:30. The guy always made a lot of sense.

Take care.

Really? Sam, Woody, Cliff Claven and the rest of the gang always seemed quite thrilled when you turned up at the bar.

Sorry, serious topic but I couldn't resist. Glad to hear you've gotten through and I hope FLAMESRULE can do the same.
