There's no doubt in my mind I'd lock my doors if I saw you coming. Apparently someone else felt that way too!

I'd do more than lock the doors, I'd probably go on a two month drinking bender if I saw his "O" face!

You know it wouldn't surprise me to find the doors locked on a Church late at night...
but this was only 7:00 pm. and complete daylight outside.
That...... surprised me.
And I guess the whole point of this thread is a social commentary on how society has gone so far downhill in the last 20 or 30 years that even Churches are locking there doors to the general public and entry is by appointment only.... or just a few hours per week when scheduled masses are being held.

Well I’m telling you to think before you start threads. You posting every useless thought that enters your mind isn’t getting us anywhere.

I guess I could say the same about your useless thoughts and comments, too.
... and by the way... where are we supposed to be going and whats your hurry?
If you don't like what I post... don't read it, put me on ignore... and best of all... don't bother with the drive by ignorant comments.

Quite the contrary, IMO. More like a sign that society is wisening up. Church is a waste of time.

Unless you're looking for some stuff you can pawn off to buy meth.

Really? The church being locked the first time you have tried to go into one in years, and suddenly it's a social commentary on how society has gone downhill? Have you checked to see if any other churches are locked at night? There's a million reasons that particular church could have been closed on that particular night, you have no idea.
And really, in the end, who friggin' cares either way? It was closed. Lots of things close.

According to a lot of the comments of here it is now quite common for churches to have doors locked because of vandalism and theft problems....
... and I care. Whats it to you?

Hey lay off my buddy Rerun..
Often honestly its about lack of interest, all over Canada and Europe you see Churches with very small congregations and very little walk in traffic, unless of course you have the old historic ones which attract visitors simply to enjoy the art and architecture, certainly the case here in Iceland with Reykjavik's church, which is quite stunning. Even when me the heathen atheist goes there, I get goose bumps.
Anyhow, more to the topic, especially true here in Iceland the vast majority of churches that were doing well 50yrs ago are now transformed into stores, community centers etc.. Very few people go to church unless its Christmas, Easter, a funeral, christening and especially in Iceland confirmations which are hugely popular cause the kids get tons of money/gifts.

Well, I shouldn't be surprised that you care about something as trivial as this, given the other things you apparently "care" about.

The trolls have came out to play in this thread. This is the off-topic forum that specifically says "talk about whatever is on your mind". Lighten up people it was a legitimate question if you look past your religion hate goggles.

That's where the cultural aspects of religon come into play. I know many Catholics and a few Jews and Muslims who are not really all that spiritual, but they are still attached to the cultural aspects. For example, I like going to church on holidays because of sentimental memories. I don't care much about the actual sermons or that my personal beliefs don't completely jive with it. It's just a good way to get the family together and touch base with the community.
For my relatives back in Croatia, church on Sundays also means Sunday afternoon family time (soccer matches, food, gossip, etc...). Again, even though they are more religious, it acts more as a transmitter of culture.

Well guess what popped into my mind when reading this thread.
Rerun makes ######ed threads.
It's such a bizarre thing to rant about... downfall of society because a Church locks it's doors on a weekday night. This isn't a movie, you can't just stroll into a church whenever you want.
Lord knows I've tried, I'm always looking for random gun fights between Nicholas Cage and John Travolta whenever I go by a Church, alas... none so far.
