This is obviously way over my head.

The reason people are ribbing you is because that guys post was so over the top sarcastic, and yet you took it as a serious response.

Yah I'm used to it. It makes some of the older CP members feel all fuzzy inside when they pile on one user. Makes them all feel connected.

And yah I'm proud of my post whoriness. I've always been a post whore on every forum I've been on, and it's not about to change

Except I've seen that argument so many times on CP especially in the 16 year old girl sailing thread.

While I think this family was being wreckless I don't think that you can say bringing a child rafting on the bow in general is any way dangerous or wrong.

If you have a quality boat and have decent boating skills and the water levels are at safe levels going on the bow with an infant isn't dangerous.

I personally take my 19 month old on the elbow in crappy rafts. I feel there is approxamately zero risk. Life jackets are worn, no alcohol is drank, and you can walk out in 95% of the river.

As for the bow if I wanted to go down it I would rent one of the U of C boats. Putting an infant in those is also very safe provided you have the skills to paddle that size of raft. I think maybe next summer I will start going on trips down the bow. So i think a lot of people blanket statements that taking a infant rafting is wreckless are incorrect.

OK. I get it, where's the white flag smilie?

I just think it's funny how everyone jumps on people to take their kids away etc. all the time when most of them don't even know what it's like to have kids. I don't condone the actions in this case either but blanket statements about kids in boats don't fly. We all take measurable risks in life, with or without our kids and it's not always so cut and dry. What is dangerous to one is not necessarily dangerous to another and quite possibly not dangerous at all. (again not from what I see in this one!).
