I loved playing each game in the series... unlike Final Fantasy, where there are a few games that I was never able to get into.

Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2 was a bit easier than the earlier titles, but it was fun and showed a lot of promise for the series and its ability to cross over to the current gen systems. Unfortunately, though, it has yet to happen...

Hahah awesome.

Haha yeah. Such an awesome series.

Also, the *Quest ones were great. Kings, Police, Space... even the one about that Larry dude...

Who needs sex ed when kids get to play Leisure Suit Larry?

I loved the Police Quest series, cheesy as it was, it totally went Miami Vice with PQII and then in PQIII they even hired Jan Hammer to do the music.

Police Quest V was simply breathtaking for me as it was the first time they made the adventure using real photographs and rotoscoped actor back in the wonderful days of adventure games and FMV.

It's really a shame that adventure games are nolonger what they used to be. There are still a lot of homebrew adventure games that are great though.

This is getting a bit off topic as the Sierra Quest games are not RPGs other than Hero's Quest.

Has anyone tried Puzzle Quest? It's a fun little game with some RPG elements.

All the talk about Fallout and Baldur's Gate has made me want to go back to play those. It would be nice if one day you could get them on Steam for Mac.

Puzzle Quest is great. Most fun on the DS compared to other platforms though since you can use the stylus. It's basically bejewelled but they managed to turn it into an RPG where the puzzle part is actually how you do combat. It plays waayyyy better than it sounds. It's awesome.

You can play Fallout 2 on Mac though:

Same with Baldur's Gate:

I loved Puzzle Quest. The follow-up (Galactrix I think) wasn't nearly as good. I have Puzzle Quest on the DS, the PSP and the iPad (iPhone app).

I prefer Puzzle Quest on the iPhone (iPad too, though it's a bit stretched). A sequel should be out soon, it seems.

The first Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System is probably the finest 8 bit console RPG I’ve ever played. 2-d scrolling world, complete with cities, wilderness, forests, deserts, vehicles, space travel between three planets, and then throw a deliciously old-skool first person maze based dungeon crawl on top. Awesome. Your adventurers consist of a rogue, a tank, a mage and a FREAKING CAT. You get the cat by trading a pot for her (yes, a pot) You heal yourself by eating burgers that you buy from dome shaped shops. It’s off the charts cool.

Ultima 4 is a close second.

I would pay any price for a port of Phantasy Star to the iPhone - I don’t even need updated graphics, just antialias the ones from the original.

I lost many hours of my life to Final Fantasy Tactics, although my RPG experience is very limited that is the one title that always comes out on top for me. With the job system you could play the game over and over again trying out all sorts of new team combos (or challenges like all your characters being one job class).

Don't forget the awesome Engrish translations!

A "Let's Play" thread of FFT over at the Somethingawful forums, not sure if everyone can get to it but definitely worth the time to read if you can:

Aside from the first KOTOR, I have not enjoyed RPG games until Mass Effect 2. I have not played the first one, but I am really enjoying the second one. I have not had much time to play it, but it has been absolutely amazing.
