Pretty embarrassing if you ask me.
He was being nice, was trying not to take her down to the concrete and really hurt her. Might also have been worried about the crowd becoming aggitated if he used to much force.

Those women are idiots.

It looked like the one who got punched in the face was reaching for his gun.

Yep.

If I was a cop in that hostile crowd and a guy tried to grab my gun, I would probably either do the same, or be drawing my gun. Since drawing the gun is a huge escalation, I think he made a much more reasonable choice.

The real crime in all of this is going to be two days from now, when those two walk out of this situation with a public apology, a fist full of money and that Cop's badge as a souvenir.

Both black and a woman. There's no way this is going to end well for the Cop. I can almost smell the Seattle lawyers salivating over this clip from here.

I understand that. Although in Forest Lawn, where I was, the officer I was with said that backup was never more than 45 seconds away. Obviously different for every area.

Yeah a place like forest lawn has a high concentration of cops which means quicker back up times, etc. Places like downtown, etc. are the same....suburbs...not so much.

Not to derail the thread but just curious how you enjoyed the ride along? I'm about a year from finishing up my Criminology degree and have been thinking about calling to inquire about going on one. Is it something you would recommend?

You weren't asking me, but I've been on two with the EPS, and they were fantastic. Never pass up that opportunity if you get it.

I would be thinking the same thing. Especially when your the only white guy. I wouldn't last two seconds as a cop in that neighborhood.

Did your....ahem...."ride along" end with an overnight stay on a cold concrete floor and sore wrists by any chance?

It was awesome. One of the most fun things I've ever done, especially because this is what I want to do. I gained a new appreciation of the Calgary Police after doing it, that's for sure. These guys are trained so well and they are SUCH good drivers. I was really impressed.

Am I the only one that found the "Are you serious?"x1000000 guy to be very annoying? I wish the cop had punched him too.

No, you're not. I was hoping the video was going to end with someone beating him over the head with that phone.

It is harder to cuff someone when you are trying not to hurt them. The cop even threw a lame punch at that girl that intervened to reduce injury. I think cops should do whatever it takes to avoid injury to themselves. Those girls, no matter what, were wrong (it looks like some of the guys were trying to calm the girls down). They should have let the cop do the job and a judge / or the cop himself when there is calm and order figure the rest out.

On the other hand, a seo nage would have resulted in a better video and shut the crowd up. Not sure if the cop knows that, but hopefully he can go learn.

Its stuff like this that reminds me why I would not want to be a police officer. Surrounded by a bunch of idiots turning into cameramen while you struggle with idiots resisting arrest.

Society these days is pathetic.

Kudos to the officers who put themselves out there for the rest of us.

Anyone interfering with an arrest is lucky to walk away with a mere slug to the face.

Hope the second woman has charges laid against her as well.

Yeah, do cops carry batons anymore? I think they were carrying those collapsible batons, but I haven't seen anyone get whacked with one in a long time.
