Yeah like I started it.

FYI, if you don't want me to slam religion don't bring it up, if it's brought up I slam it...that's my "religion"...get over it!

Not to debate you or this point but I think I know what I'm talking about. At one point in my life I had serious plans to attend seminary. Don't presume to tell me what I know.

It's not that I think torture is ok or don't feel sorry for the guy, but my level of "feeling sorry for the guy" varies depending on whether you are an innocent victim of some sadist (remember that Charles Ng fellow who was captured in Calgary) or brought the suffering on yourself by engaging in criminal activity with nasty people. I think it's same sort of moral equivocation as between innocent civilians killed by a suicide bomber vs a soldier killed in battle - yes, it's all bad, but the soldier signed up knowing the risk.
Is it bad that I feel somewhat less sympathetic because his own actions seem to have led to this outcome? Maybe, but there it is.

I think how we feel about this guy has to do with how we relate it to our own lives. An innocent young Father gets grabbed and tortured is scary because it could happen to me. Finding out he may be associated with a criminal element offers a measure of relief because it makes the probability of it happening to me or someone I know less likely.

So the suspect in this case has been arrested.

This is just a weird story. I don't quite understand how something like this can even happen.
