as the Op in this thread, i have mostly backed off because i felt the response "the 1st page of threads includes things over 24 hours old" was pretty legit. when i did think about that it made me realize that for most regular users that log in once a day or so, that they would still easily be able to find topics and not miss things. so that does seem like a logical response. however, i would like to revisit the idea once october hits and more folks are on the board. i realize the OT forums don't have as much usage swings as people like myself will log in regardless of the time of year. however, i would assume overall site usage is lower in the summer so you have less folks that just randomly stop by and contribute. so i might bump this in a few months if threads are getting pushed down much more quickly.

and i guess my bigger problem is not that the # of threads makes it impossible to talk about other subjects, but more that it seems silly to have so many threads that do just end up as the same arguments. i know that happens a lot in FOI as everyone eventually turns topics into sutter debates; but to me it seems silly that so many threads pop up and have posts from so few. i am way too lazy to do any sort of data about it, but i think we all know there is a small handful of users that have most of the posts in those threads. i also think its unfortunate as i often stay out of those apple threads because i know there will just be arguing.

just some more thoughts on the issue.

For me, I would prefer to just stick with one forum. I don't mind the volume of Apple threads since it's not completely shoving other threads off the first page or two. I imagine that creating an Apple forum would result in low thread traffic and may take away from the activeness of the general tech forum. There would probably be about, 8 active Apple threads within a month perhaps? Plus why can Apple get it's own forum, but PCs wouldn't?

Don't think we need to over-categorize here. After all, we manage with having all Flames talk along with other NHL teams in the main forum. I actually like that the forum numbers are low as it allows me to check out more postings that I may have not otherwise.

Heres a thought, why not TRY an Apple subforum for a couple of weeks. Maybe it will be the olive branch between hating PC and Apple users that this site has been waiting for since 2001!

If it is good, useful and people like it, keep it! If not, back to normal, no harm no foul!

I'd even volunteer to moderate it.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I love when people nominate themselves as mods.

It was simply an offer.

Why would an extra click do anything between Apple and PC hating? If people don't like the topic they don't have to go into the tread. If people are going to cause a ruckus they will find the Apple subforum.

I still think we should create a subforum for the PC fanboys. Their threads are constantly cluttering up the Apple Forum.

It wouldn't solve that problem... but it would make the forum more usable for people who's interests extend beyond apple. Although, I guess it's getting better - only 8/20 front page threads are apple related right now.
