as the Op in this thread, i have mostly backed off because i felt the response "the 1st page of threads includes things over 24 hours old" was pretty legit. when i did think about that it made me realize that for most regular users that log in once a day or so, that they would still easily be able to find topics and not miss things. so that does seem like a logical response. however, i would like to revisit the idea once october hits and more folks are on the board. i realize the OT forums don't have as much usage swings as people like myself will log in regardless of the time of year. however, i would assume overall site usage is lower in the summer so you have less folks that just randomly stop by and contribute. so i might bump this in a few months if threads are getting pushed down much more quickly.
and i guess my bigger problem is not that the # of threads makes it impossible to talk about other subjects, but more that it seems silly to have so many threads that do just end up as the same arguments. i know that happens a lot in FOI as everyone eventually turns topics into sutter debates; but to me it seems silly that so many threads pop up and have posts from so few. i am way too lazy to do any sort of data about it, but i think we all know there is a small handful of users that have most of the posts in those threads. i also think its unfortunate as i often stay out of those apple threads because i know there will just be arguing.
just some more thoughts on the issue.
