Just because it doesn't sound like roses and sunshine doesn't make it inaccurate.

It also doesn't mean that I don't like some of their stuff, or that I won't play Pacman on their logo.
You're kidding right?

Does it even matter what Google does? Fact is they have their hands in a lot of pots(renewable energy for one)....and use their massive amounts of money to create better products for the consumer.

Advertising money has allowed them to get into a lot of other markets(Android, OS, renewable energy, etc, etc)....where they can basically throw money away trying to come up with something.

Why wouldn't you like a company like that?

In fact it sounds downright stupid to say you're against the ad business. Advertising is an important market whether you like it or not. Google has revolutionized the way people advertise. Thats a bad thing?

Whoa... easy, people. I know where this is going.

I didn't say I hate Google. I said I don't understand the people who think they do this stuff for free, and for your best interests.

Someone made the comment pointing out that Google is just doing things to sell ads, and I expanded on that comment by adding my observations to the mix.

Commercials are a good thing? Are you the only person on the planet who gets their beer during the game so you don't miss the commercials?

Apple wouldn't be where they are right now if it wasn't for advertising and especially TV commercials.

I don't understand why you are picking on advertising companies for some reason. It's not like their intentions are any different than other companies.

I'm not picking on ad companies. I'm just saying that people think all this stuff from Google is free, but it's all just more advertising space for Google to make money from.

If someone offered me two phones, one for free but supported by ads everywhere, and another that cost $199 but had no ads at all... I'd happily pay the $200 every single time.

That's just me, man. I'm not knocking anyone else or anything. I'm just saying that "free" is very rarely ever actually free.

Edit: And I've gone as far into this conversation as I'm going to go. Someone not liking commercials is not a foreign concept, and I'm not wasting anymore time defending my opinion on it.

I would go for the free option that comes with ads because 15 years of using the internet has evolved an automatic ad blocker in my brain.

Google has innovated in so many ways with things that are pretty much free to the consumer whereas any other company without the clout and capital would have never been able to get anything of the sort going or would have charged large fees to do so had google not changed the landscape and playing field (google maps/gmail/docs for instance).

That said, Google is evil. So is Apple. Everybody has a bit of evil in them.

Exactly. I didn't say what Google does is a bad thing. I just said they aren't altruistic.

I find a lot of things that they are doing could be said to be altruistic though. Advertising only helps pay for those innovations. Their engineers and designers do a lot of things to try to improve not only the internet experience but the entire experience of how we deal with knowledge (Google Books). Google is probably the least instrusive of any internet company in terms of ads. They were the first one to completely ban image related ads on their search engine.

If barely noticible, extremely minimal advertising can pay a company to hire vehicles to drive over every single road on earth while taking 360º pictures and making that accessible on a free map database...then I would almost call that altruistic.

Youtube is increasingly flooded with advertising but that is completely understandable given how it's growing at a geometric rate with even 1080p support these days. Their bandwidth costs actually makes Youtube one of the biggest money losers for google.

Apple is far more commercial and "in your face" than Google with brand image and advertising being their biggest stick as it always has been since their inception.

You seriously think multi-billion dollar companies spend millions on commercials for no reason at all?

No, of course not. Where did I say that?

I just seriously think I don't like watching them. In fact, I'm pretty sure I don't like watching them... since I download my TV shows to avoid watching them, and I change the channel during live events for the same reason.

Again, I'm not the only person on the planet who thinks this way. Treating this like it's some foreign concept that you've never heard of before is kind of an interesting approach, though.

So does that mean when Applie Iadd is released there wont be 50 CP threads about how innovative and special this is and how much better their adds are than someone else's adds?

I didnt think so either

Yes, because that's what I do. I create 50 threads about everything I want to talk about.

In fact, I'm going to go create 49 more threads about Apple being worth more money than Microsoft now.

I heard @ Orange Julius that Fanin80 might be a paid shill for Apple's secret guerilla marketing campaign.

I'm glad the denial stage is over. Embrace fanboyism like I told you, but maybe make a few more threads about the other things that you are passionate about too to balance it out. We could use a few more House threads.

Seriously?

Google offers an amazing service(gmail)....and they place ads on it to make it free, and you have a problem with it?

Well geez, why not just buy the one for small businesses? $50/year/user, and your ads are all gone.

Or... why not just pay Apple $100/year for the same thing without ads?

(Hint: This is what I do.)

Edit: Oh great, now this is going to evolve into a GMail vs MobileME debate.

It doesn't matter if YOU like them or not.

But commercials and advertising is a necessity. Without it businesses, including your beloved Apple would have a tough time marketing their products.

Of course it matters if I like them or not. I'm the one who has to watch them.

I think you're just egging me on to see how far I go with this. You can't really be arguing this stuff on your own.
