Or you could just use Quicktime, which has built-in screen recording.

Yeah no kidding. That's with an SSD, right?
It would be even higher with 1333 RAM.

So, help me in my thinking. I'm looking at the base 21.5" iMac. I've applied for university, but haven't got back any acceptance yet, If I'm not accepted, technically, I wouldn't qualify for the education discount.
The education discount on the base iMac is $50, plus $60 savings on applecare (I think I'll get it), plus right now, get a iPod touch free (which I'd sell). Is there also a discount on iWork?
For the refurbished option, only the step up 21.5" is available, at a $250 dollar discount. I wouldn't get any discount on Applecare.
I don't really think I need the upgrade to the step up iMac.
I'm also looking about getting a new printer as well - taking advantage of the $100 mail in rebate in you buy a mac and a printer together. Is this option available if you buy a refurbished mac or a mac with an education discount? If I can do it, what is a good value printer to get from the apple store?
What works out to be the best value?
Refurbished iMac or
Education discount? How does the education discount work? Do I have to show proof of education status?

this was my justification too.
if you go to bestbuy and buy something from the flyer all you see are the surface-level specs: ram, hard drive, processor.
you don't see bus speed, rpm on the hd, etc.
and you certainly don't see the trackpad quality, screen viewing angle, build quality, etc.
windows diehards will freak out, but it's the truth. if you buy a mac you know you're getting quality parts. building a similar non-mac computer is often surprisingly expensive. they're more comparable than you think. some things are just more difficult to put a number on.
-->edit: and honestly, if you are arguing against mac prices and you don't drink safeway brand coke then you don't have a rhetorical leg to stand on.

You can access the Education store online and see all the prices...

If you buy from Apple Education store online, you will not be asked for proof of education. In store you will be asked for a student ID perhaps.
Your best off taking the Edu route over the refurb route for the iPod, and the printer (not sure if the printer applies to refurbs, but the iPod doesn't).
If you have any questions feel free to PM me

Ok, so far I've figured:
Refurished models do qualify for the printer rebate, but not for the education pricing or iPod deal, or $30 off of iWork.
I'm pretty sure that the education deal is a much better deal, the question is whether I qualify, since Idon't know my application status yet.
EDIT: thanks guys for your answers!

If you order online, you qualify. I won't go into details, but trust me.
