I'm sure there's factors in place to why we get the acts we do. Cost/Security/Content/etc.

Well no big name acts will come and play at the Stampede unless they can get some revenue from ticket sales. Would you rather play at a small scale outdoor concert and make little money or potentially play at a larger venue.

The bands likely aren't getting a cut of ticket sales, not bands of this stature. They get their quote and a percentage of merch. Ticket revenue is where promoters get paid.

I'm fairly sure the area will be jammed for all of these acts.

I just think there are lots of better acts, even local bands or 'about-to-blow' bands that would make a better lineup. I don't think the fact the area will be jammed is a reflection of a great lineup, rather the place is packed with people who are there anyway. I'm sure most people have no idea who's playing half the time anyway.

If local or "about-to-blow" bands played you'd get twice the bitchn and complaning.
You can't please everyone, ever. While I agree local bands would definitely deserve the opportunity, people have huge expectations of these concerts for some reason.

Like most have said in this thread, its a 14 dollar concert, you can't really expect anything amazing considering the venue, and security.

One very very average night in Toronto I saw Throwdown, Children of Bodom, Fear Factory, and Lamb of God all in one card for $14.

when? were they already popular? what was the venue?

I'm not saying you can't find any good concerts for 14 bucks I've been to lots of free to $10 concerts that were awesome IMO, but trying to please a large demographic of "stampede goers" can't be easy.

That's BNL minus Steven Page though, correct?

I'm going to Alexisonfire tonight, face value $15. I have no idea how anyone is making money off of it, except the scalpers, but it works for me.

Yeah it's definitely one of the better lineups in the last few years, but then again it's not saying much.

Yes.

They're touring in support of their newest album, All in Good Time, entirely written and recorded since Page's departure. I don't know what the mix of old/new stuff will be like at the Stampede, however.

A friend who saw 'em a month ago (and has seen them live before) said they can still put on a really good show, but it somehow no longer "feels" like a BNL concert with Page no longer in the mix.
