I don't see why so many people hate hearing that the Flames want their prospects to be responsible defensively.
Looking at some of the better, young players(in this case centreman) and all the good ones are also good defensively.
Kesler, Koivu, Pavelski just to name a couple. If Nemisz could turn his game into the type that those 3 play, I think that would be a big win for the organization.

As a follow-up to my post (graciously linked above) I was able to pull some qualitative information out of Brock Otten, writer for the OHL Prospects blog - the same guy who shared some observations on Bryan Cameron when the Flames signed him. His review of the player is mostly a positive one. For example:

Nemisz is definitely a quality offensive player, so I don't think his stats are being inflated by playing on such a quality team (if that's what you're inferring). He has moments where he can take over a hockey game with his size and skill combination. Realistically, if he were on an average OHL squad, I think he'd still easily be over a point per game player and a 30 goal scorer.

Otten also admits that skating is Nemisz primary concern and dismisses the notion that his lackluster showing at WJC is significant. Whole thing here:

Thought this answer was interesting:

Skating is his primary weakness, but I think he also made progress in that area this year. His acceleration and first step looked particularly improved over last season and it helped him become more of a factor in using his size to take the puck hard to the net.

This is what I would agree with most, after having watched him on a consistent weekly basis in Windsor.

i agree it's going to be awhile for a top forward to come from the flames ranks. hopefully there's some surprises though.

Why? Because he's big? He has very good hands and touch around the net. Nemisz is a top 6 prospect and drafted because of his offensive abilities. Just because a guy is big doesn't mean he's a grinder.
