Listen, I drink about 5 cups of green tea a day and I sleep like a baby!

I thought having more than 4 cups a day was good for your metabolism?

If Jack Bauer can quit Heroin cold turkey, I have faith you can overcome your caffeine addiction.

Some days I'm extremely sensitive to caffeine, one small cup of coffee can keep me awake through the whole day, some days I get more drowsy and tired from drinking coffee..... the thing I prefer to stay awake on consistent basis is:

Can I ask what the title means? I have never heard of 'kidding the habit' - is this a bit of Canadian speak? My English would want to say 'kicking the habit'.

During undergrad, I would get up in the morning and brew a pot of coffee before heading off to class. Sometimes I would stop with just the one pot. Sometimes I'd drink part of a second pot. It got to the point where I would get really bad headaches if I didn't have coffee a couple hours after I woke up. Then I would have so much coffee and caffeine coursing through my veins that I would get the shakes.

One year for Lent I decided to give up coffee. The first week or so was absolute hell. I had headaches and shakes at the same time. I was irritable (both in mood and bowel). But after that initial detox period I was fine.

All I can say is that in my experience, it sucks balls going off the java at the start but you get over it eventually. Stick with it and try not to kill anyone in the process.

I started on Dr. Pepper in high school and have never looked back. Although I switched to diet about 5 years ago, my consumption didn't decrease until recently. At the high point I was drinking upwards of 3 litres a day of the stuff, now I'm down to a can every couple of days. I've had a few headaches & shakes, but nothing all that bad. Stick with it - all shall come to pass in due time.

Surprisingly, it's not the caffeine that gave me grief; it's the carbonation. The crap plays havoc with your cardiovascular system. Now that I'm starting to get back into sports a lot more, I found I actually had a hard time catching my breath until I dropped my Dr. Pepper intake.

This.

In fact, if you drink coffee, drink an equal amount of water. Same goes for alcohol.

Keeping yourself hydrated will ease just about all withdrawl symptoms. And keeping pace with water while drinking a lot of alcohol will also mitigate most of a hangover. Course, you will be in the bathroom 20 times that night...

Yeah I made this thread with the shakes, nausea and a headache, definitely meant to say "kicking the habit"

Yesterday was pure hell, woke up after 11 hours of sleep, went to the dentist, then home, napped, ate supper, slept until 9ish, up for an hour and a half then back to bed until 11 this morning.

After getting a shower I felt like I was going to puke, then met a friend at Tim Hortons. Now I feel like a million bucks.

I don't want to give up coffee completely, just cut back on what I had been drinking.

The internetz are saying cut back gradually and not go cold turkey. CP is saying replace the habit with harder drugs (well I went to the Tim's in the Pier for those familiar with Cape Breton, so Lord only knows what was actually in the coffee, maybe there was cocaine in it)

Regardless, I was hoping for a miracle remedy like "eat strawberries" I guess the only thing would be to "Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy, put my glasses on, I'm out the door, I'm gonna hit this city, before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack!"

Now the question is do I get coffee #2 (aka fall off the waggon for sweet sweet caffeine)

Maybe he doesn't actually want to kick the habit, he just wants to trick it into thinking he's kicked it... Then he'll be all like "Just kidding, habit!" and drink two pots of coffee through a beer bong.
